Age: 21
Residence: Melbourne, Australia
Trained at: Private studio in suburban Melbourne (closed, audition only studio so I'd prefer not to give details) but I do heaps of open classes with Paul Davis (former Tap Dog) at Dance Factory and Grant Swift (Funk Tap).
Tap bio: Trained in the Australian Teachers of Dancing method. I started tap when I was 6 and started competing when I was about 10 (I can't remember exactly!) in tap and song and tap sections.
In 2002 I won the ATOD Victorian Senior Tap scholarship then went on to win the ATOD Australasian Senior Tap scholarship also. This is probably my biggest award, and one of the highest possible awards in the ATOD. I'm always on the look out for auditions (all you aussies we should let each other know when anything comes up!!!) but I am also a tap teacher and choreographer. I'm currently choreographing for an amateur production of Stepping Out.
Other stuff: I also study and teach ballet/contemporary and jazz/lyrical, and do jazz auditions when they come up. In terms of other performance stuff, I was in the Childrens Chorus for Opera Australia for 5 years and I've done various bits of acting including lots of extra work on Neighbours! | re: Ah ha!!! Name (optional): Star is what all my online friends call me
Age or Birthdate: 24 December, 1983
Residence (optional): Corn State, USA
Trained at: Places no one's heard of...the earliest I can remember is Dance Project in STL, MO, then Dancentre South in Woodstock, GA, then Performer's Edge in this place, and now nothing since I'm in school. The tap class at school I'm taking is pathetically easy so I tap in my bedroom on a big piece of particle board.
Bio: I've done one competition in my life. I moved away from GA and missed out on going to Germany. My teachers (Marcus Alford and Annie Day) are big competitors over there, apparently, and have posters of them in German, which was cool. But anyway, then I had Ron Morgan, who does choreograph for the Colts cheerleaders I think, LoL. This summer I had Monique Alhadad, whose name I probably spelt wrong, but she's touring with Fosse right now...internationally I think she said. I've been tapping since I was four, with a tiny break for a year around age 10 when I hated my teacher b/c her daughter was in the class and got special treatment, heh. I was a vicious child. So now I'm kind of stuck. Aside from making up my own dances, I really can't move forward the traditional way, you know, having someone teach me a new step. It sucks, but there isn't much I can do. The only studio in town with teen/adult classes wants $50/month for a once a week class! I can't afford that...unless of course I dropped out of school and used my tuition money for a dance class, LoL.
Other: I've taken ballet, jazz, pointe, a bit of Irish, even less of African dance, some acrobatics but I'm too tall, heh. | re: Ah ha!!! Now, let's get to know one another! en>fr fr>en By tapper4life Comments: 105, member since Sun Sep 15, 2002On Sat Oct 18, 2003 03:51 PM
I'm 16, female, Massachusetts, USA. I have been dancing for 13 years now and I absolutely love it. I have been doing show tap and jazz for 13 years, ballet for 3, and jazz tap for 5. I took a choreography class last year and lovedx it. I started pointe this year and am liking it more everyday. I danced 9 classes a week between three studios last year, this year cutting down to 2 studios and 7 classes. My favorite type of dance is jazz tap. I plan on persuing dance as a career and I just absolutely love it! That's all folks!!!!

Bio: Been in highest level of advanced tap classes offered since 11, been in the advanced classes since 9. Just starting to compete this year (was invited to compete before but wasn't allowed too) but have been dancing with competition teams for 2 years
As for 'others': I LOVE tap, it's my favorite. I'm on a competition team and I'm in the 2nd highest level of ballet/jazz in my studio. Our studio has had classes from Bryan Anthony, Chi Johnson, and took classes from Frank Hatchett and many others at conventions such as DMI, Tremaine, and LADF. We're also performing at the Music City Bowl, which is pretty much the college equivalant of the Super Bowl. I'm not as old as the rest of you, and haven't had as much experience but I really am good at tap, I've been tapping for 9 years, 7 of them seriously. I'm really looking forward to this forum! | re: Ah ha!!! Now, let's get to know one another! en>fr fr>en By tap_dancer_telly Comments: 133, member since Sat Jun 07, 2003On Wed Oct 22, 2003 11:45 PM
great idea!
Name: my nickname is 'telly'
Age: 19
Residence: BC, Canada
Trained at: Evelyne Ward Academy of Dance (1987-1998), McHardy Dance Studios (1998-2001), P&B Dance Unlimited (2001-Present)
Bio: I've trained predominantly in the Broadway style of tap and have worked with choreographers such as Evelyne Ward, Betty McHardy, Barbara Tutt, Peggy Giesbrecht-Dyck, and Matthew Clark just to name a few. I have tinkered a bit with the more heavy styled tap which i call hoofing, under the artistic direction of Van "The Man" Porter, however my style is definitely Broadway. I believe that Broadway-styled tap allows more room for intricacy and level of difficulty than hoofing does, and I have yet to meet anyone who can convince me otherwise. I continue to train in Tap, I completed grade 7 in the Al Gilbert Tap Syllabus and continue to work towards completing the last two grades. I was a member of the Bronze Medalist Canadian National Tap Team of 2002 which competed in Riesa Germany last November. I currently teach tap at P&B Dance Unlimited as well as for the City of Burnaby and see myself continuing.
As for 'others': I also have extensive training in Jazz (i have completed the Al Gilbert Jazz syllabus), Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Acro, Musical Theatre, Baton Twirling/Majorettes, and very minimal Hiphop/Street Jazz. I teach Ballet and Jazz in addition to tap both at the competitive as well as the recreational level. My plans are to continue my training and my teaching until i am able to open a studio of my own, ideally in either Portugal or France.
Nice to meet you all!

Age or Birthdate: 14; June 26, 1989
Residence (optional): Las Vegas, Nevada
Trained at: When I was little (about three years total) - Merluzzi, Bunker Dance Center, Desert Shores Dance Academy.
When I actually danced (starting at age ten) - Nevada Ballet Theatre
Bio: I'm in the advanced tap class at my studio, but since we're not very strong in tap and jazz (but we ARE one of the most prominent ballet studios in Nevada!), I'm not as advanced as most of the people here. I love to tap, though, and I'm getting better at it. Anyway, I've taken tap all of the years that I've danced - about seven total, I think, going into eight. Right now, I tap at Nevada Ballet Theatre, but I want to try and tap at another studio sometime soon, if I can. I've never competed (my studio doesn't compete) but I'd love to someday
As for 'others': I take ballet, pointe, repertoire and variations (okay, those are all ballet ), along with jazz and modern. I take all of these except modern at Nevada Ballet Theatre, and I do ballet, jazz and modern at the Las Vegas Academy (performing arts high school). I also take voice lessons and I'm a Thespian - I haven't been in a show in a really long time though... (*sob*)
