How many times have you watctched someone fall at a feis?
How many times were they people in your competition?
The person dancing with you?
Yourself?

I've encountered all of these. Sometimes it just a little sliding from one spot to another, sometimes you go all the way down. Once doing my trebble jig on a slippery stage i went backwards and landed on my behind...I got up quickly, continued dancing, came in second and my comments read: "good recovery".

Tell us all about your slippery stories!

At one feis during my hardshoe round in prelim, the girl i was dancing with fell. She was okay, but they stoped the music and moved us to the end of the line to dance again. We danced again and half way through the third step i fell. They didnt stop the music, as i got up quite quickly and kept going. Eveyone laughed because it looked like just bounced off the stage!

I've never actually fallen (knock on wood) but I have slipped and almost fallen. Both were at the same feis. I slipped in the slip jig while turning on a certain slippery plank on the stage. Later on in my treble jig, I slipped on the same spot doing a click and it would have been horrible, but I managaed to dig my heel into the ground and save myself. The judge must not have seen that heel go down because I got first! haha

In my reel one time, I have no idea when cause it was a long time ago, I just slipped right down to my bum, jumped back up and i didn't even miss a beat. It was like "and one two *slip* two three" instead of "and one two OVER two three" I don't remember if I got anything... And at my last few competitions I've had problems turning my ankles... but they never really bother me. The one time i REALLY fell was in a San Francisco feis years and years ago- I was doing st. pat's day and on the beginning tip og the left foot I feel right on my bum and couldn't finish the dance. It hurt SO much.

I also have fallen several times in class, resulting in severely sprained ankles, pulled muscles, pulled wrists, and bruised butts.

I often see girls in my competition fall, and usually get hurt. Not many can just bounce up, cause we are all dancing so hard, when we do fall it's like *woah* and is a real problem.

I've seen people fall a few times - for me watching it, it's almost always one of those weird 'slow-mo time freezes' type of things where you can see it's gonna happen but know you can't do anything to stop it

I don't think it's ever been the person with me, but at a feis last Sept. one of our classmates fell hard (she was a pair or two ahead of me) and it was really weird, cuz it was our 'home' feis and lots of us (from our school) were onstage when she fell and it was like we all wanted to help her but no one did cuz we were onstage and it was just weird. and scary, especially dancing again right after that. (of course, being my first feis doing new steps didn't help any either!)

I've never fallen myself yet (touch wood!), just slipped a few times

I've only been competing for a year, and I've fallen twice. The first time was back in December, and I was doing a hop in my adv. beginner single jig. When I came down, my toes slid out on a slippery plank (lots of girls had slipped there already) and my ankle went over, and down to the floor I went. Hopped back up, kept dancing, and pulled in a third. The second time was last weekend, during my Prizewinner hornpipe (on the stage, in the auditorium...). I wasn't even doing a click or toes or anything difficult, I believe I was doing a stepping sequence, and my feet just slid out from under me. I had almost fallen after slipping in my treble jig earlier that day, so I think the stage was a little slick. In any case, I didn't place, but I got my results back, and I actually came 5th, and the only reason I can tell is that when I landed on my butt, I burst out laughing, got up, and finished my dance. I also fell in class last Friday. Barely dancing, just marking some steps (brand new shoes, so I couldn't get on my toes)there, and all of a sudden I was on the floor...I'm such a spazz.

I have never fallen at a feis, but I have slipped. The one time a nearly fell, I tightened my leg up so I would not fall and ended up tearing my ACL (during the slip jig of all things) but other than that I have done some very ungraceful slides during my treble jig and hornpipe.

I have fallen in class twice, once so fast I hardly knew what happened and the other time (like Criosa said) it was a slow motion thing - I felt myself start to go and just started laughing because I knew I could not stop it!!

Slide, slide, slippery slide......

I was doing my Treble Jig and the girl I was competing against slipped and fell, but got back up. When she did though I think she was really confused and just stopped dancing and walked back to her spot, leaving me to dance by myself! But I didnt stop dancing, and I placed 3rd! yay!

At the montreal ECRO i was doing my softshoe round. At the very beginning of my first step left foot i slip and went over on my right foot. I was turing and jumping at the same time, and some how went over. I heard a large "crack" but kept on going. After i was finished i broke down crying and ran(more like hobbled) to me mom and teachers. I aced my foot, taped it and put my shoes back on for my set. I danced my set and ended up doing alright. It was bruising and swollen but i didnt think anything was seroiusly wrong. I went home and even played hockey on it that weekend. I went to the doctor a couple of days later and found i had broken the bone along the outside of my foot. It was quite funny considering i hadnt thought it was anything that big!!

I was at the Oirachtus dancing my double jig (i think) and all the sudden i was on the floor. I do not know how that happened or anything!! All i knew was all the sudden i was on the floor. and man did my adrenaline rush kick in. I was up so fast i could barely tell what happened. Good reaction time i guess. lol
well anyways...I got recalled which was a very good thing cause falling was very upsetting for me. (I was only about 9 at the time...lol)
that is my wonderful falling story with a happy ending!!!

last year at badger state in treble (shame, not slip) jig, the girl with me fell and landed on her butt and didn't recover. i was petrified they'd think it was my fault, but i got a first.

i fell once during a light jig, i kicked and my hopping foot just slid in front of me.
another time, during my first feis, i was up next, and the girl who was dancing on the part of the stage i would be dancing slipped. i was already nervous, but i was basically freaking out after that happened.

I'm a klutz! What can I say. I know what seanmharcailin means talking about spraining anckles in class. My record is (minorly) twisting my anckle 7 times in one class. I also tend to kick myself...and it hurts; but the weird thing is that I also kick myself while running or sometimes even just walking.

PS: Don't kick yourself with hardshoes! Its very painful and can leave long-lasting cuts, bumps and bruises!

How could I forget?!?! Especially when I'm too late to edit. I was practicing front clicks a few months ago, trying to get my foot over my head, and for some reason I thought that maybe if I leaned back a little bit, there would be more space for my legs to move. So, I tried that, and succeeded in basically kicking myself over and landing on my butt. Lesson: don't lean back when doing front clicks.

Twice in competition. Many of you have heard about that before. Once I fell while doing my set dance, got back up and finished the dance. I figured I had nothing to lose by completing the dance full out and placed fourth. But as I had hurt my shoulder from my weird landing, I walked out onstage to get my trophy only to realize I couldn't hold it without having ice packs fall off my shoulder, so Sinead Yates accepted my trophy as well as hers while I just stood there onstage feeling rather silly.
The first time was even funnier, on account that there were far more people involved, the danger of it degenerating into a total pileup, and the miraculous fact that no one was seriously hurt. We were doing the Fairy Reel and had just taken hands and started the arches, when I fell squarely on my bottom, kicked a leg out from under the girl across from me, and nearly pulled my partner down on top of me. I got back up and we finished the dance. Funnier still, we got third!

I slipped about a dozen times at a feis! I guess I'm just prone to falling? I'd say about half of the times I've fallen have been in the slipjig. But the greatest one just happened to be during my slipjig a few years ago in novice. I was doing my step and was about to do a kick when the girl I was dancing with was all of a sudden in front of me! So I kicked her, she fell, I fell, we got back up, and I got first...go figure.

I kicked someone over and carried on and got 2nd, she stood like a lemon and wasn't alowed to re-dance. I went and said sorry to her afterwards and her and her mum just glared at me. You should have seen their face in the results.... hehe
I've been kicked about 5 times by the same girl. She had this habbit of turning to the side when she did a click, and she like always danced with me grr. I carried on and she stood their like a lemon aswell and I still had to redance which was enoying. She got 1st place and I got nothing. And she kicked ME and she was the one who stopped. grrrr .
I always twist my ankles while I dance at the feis becasue nervs make them go wobbley which is SOOOO enoying (I'd love some tips how to stop this is anyone knows :P)
I think when you fall on your bum the shock of it is worse rather then the actually fall. I've fallen at class like a moose and it goes in slow motions hehe

I fell during a reel once, hard. LOL It was a flat, right on your bum kind of fall. I was so shocked becuase I had never fallen before, but I just popped right back up. I missed a beat or two, but as soon as I popped up I was back on the right time. There were tons of people watching too ugh! The judge's only comment was "fell". Yeah, thanks I didn't realize...

Well when I was at a feis last year, my friend was dancing on the stage right next to me, and at the same time (the stages shared a musician.) Anyways, I was in line, waiting to dance, and I heard a thud. My friend had fellwhile dancing! She was OK, though, and got right back up.

At a more recent feis (last weekend.) I was in the audeince, and watching some of the others dance. I'm not sure what competition it was, but they all had solo dresses on. All of a sudden one of the girls fell. They had to stop, and one of the stage volunteers and the girls parent had to help her up. I felt really bad for her.
