Feis Buckets (karma: 1)
By reelwinter

Ok, our last feis bucket is needing major repair! So my DD said she wanted a new one, the problem, I was not the one who made hers. It was a dance friend. so...

How can you make an cheap ($15 U.S or under)feis bucket.

I already have:

A washed out paint bucket

pictures to decorate

For those in the Sacramento, Roseville, or Folsom area, where is a good store to buy all the materal needed?

And, What do i need and a step by step way to make one!

Thanks every one!

(p.s my DD wants either a 'Kiss me im Irish' fabric or a glitterball like one - which would be better?)

i've never done a feis bucket--i prefer the lazy way of just buying a 3-legged stool, or using one we got for free for going to a baseball game--so i don't know how to, but i would go with the "kiss me i'm irish" fabric, because glitterball would probably be scratchy. more unique, but scratchy.

We bought a bar stool pillow top from walmart (don't rememeber the exact price, but it was cheap) and attached it to the lid with very strong velcro (the kids with sticky backs so that we could stick part onto the lid and part onto the bottom of the bar stool topper). It was just the right size. Then I used stick on letters from Michaels and stick on wall paper fairies--I think they are called 'wallies' maybe? That was all we did for ours and it was pretty cheap.

Thanks for asking this!! I was wondering the same thing, as to how you make the cushion for the top. However, I'd advise against glitterball, because I don't think it would be nearly as durable as a print cotton fabric. Cute idea, though!

I saw a website that told you exactly how to make one and the materials that would be needed. Here is one: . . .
But this one is the best one because I found it was more descriptive and thorough. I really want to make one for myself!! . . .
Hope that helps; I would go with the "Kiss my I'm Irish" material because like was said about it might be scratchy, and might even ruin your dress a bit by rubbing on it!

As far as fabric to cover goes reelwinter, I think your 'DD' would be way uncomfortable sitting on glitterball stuff. Cotton or something without sequins may be better.
(BTW, you are insane)

You'll definitely want cotton for the top, or if she wants something a little more "glamourous", a poly-silk or satin "fat quarter" might do the trick. Sequin sounds scratchy and uncomfortable to sit on!

why didn't we think of this years ago... man i so could have made a ton of money... ;) my dad worked in a high school where the paint came in 5 gallon buckets... oh man, oh well just as much fun to make one yourself.

that's a great idea a place to carry stuff and to sit.

as for the fabric.. i'm in agreement with the whole kiss me i'm irish one.. glitterball seems like it would be scratchy to sit on. best of luck with it.

If you are in the Roseville or Folsom area, then I would suggest the local Walmart for your material. The one in Roseville is huge!
Is your daughter dancing with Desmond? If so, I heard that a bunch of the DDs and Moms went recently shopping for material at some fabric store for their Feis buckets. Maybe you could ask them where they got their material.

Kerry_dancer, a feis bucket can be seen on the emeraldpointe website, but it is basically a bucket (go figure) with pictures and other decorations around it. It has a padded top in which a dancer can sit on at competitions in between dances. Inside, the bucket holds all ones feis belongings; for example, it can hold your curlers, wig, hairpins, shoes, and anything else you want to put in it. It's a great idea because it cuts down on travel space; a seat and "suitcase" in one! Hope that helped Kerry_dancer!!

And everyone always says the Irish aren't very bright... I think you proved them wrong!!

Well Done and good luck with making your feis bucket reelwinter!!

We use a small trolley case to carry our stuff, I've seen other dancers use a small stool at feis' feis buckets have not taken off over here in the uk just yet. They sound excellent though storage and a seat in one.

That is so cute! I've seen quite a few feis buckets lately and they get more creative all the time. I think it would be fun to make one!

One of the adult dancers at our school recently started a busness and on of the things they are selling is feis buckets. we live in the bay area but we go to the sacramento feis. Like i said they are pretty new and so far theyve only sold stuff at the silicon valley feis. heres the link:

I made mine with my mom. Go and buy some clear contact paper. Take some pictures and photos that you want on the bucket and attach with decopage glue. Once you are done cover the bucket with the clear contact paper and voila. As to the top, I took the lid that came with the bucket and attached industrial strength velcro that I got at a fabric store. I cut out some foam in the shape of the lid, put fabric over the foam and attached those upholstery buttons. Then I put one side of the velcro on the foam cushion and the other on the lid and stuck it down and it was done. I use it a lot. I put drinks and ice in it at feisanna and I store my feis stuff and extra shoes in it whenever I'm not feishing. It is great because it is so hard to sit in a regular chair when you are wearing a dance dress and this is easy to use as a chair and cooler or container. I love mine.

We are going to make these as a nice mom/daughter project. My oldest who does Taekwondo wants one for her tournaments. There is no place to sit there either!!!

I remember these "feis buckets" more as "sit-upons" from my Girl Scout days, didn't any other girl scout troop make these? I know my sister's Brownie troop did a couple years ago, and they're going to make new ones this next year. We were thinking of using my sisters old sit-upon as a feisbucket. Her regular dance bag is not exactly easy to dig through to find shoes and such.

I like the idea of velcro - I think we used hot glue with the fabric and the cotton batting to make the seat cover, but velcro sounds much easier.

have fun with it!
