Are you in?

I am! I've decided to abandon my trusty fanfiction world (Goodbye, I'm going to miss you ... *sniff*) and venture into the big unknown world of Original Fiction (trepidation justifies the capital letters) by writing a modern murder-mystery novel.

So, who else on DDN is about to throw themselves headlong into the madness that is November-NaNoWriMo?

I tried once a few years ago, and I think I might give it another shot this year.

I'm always tempted, but I never have time. One day maybe.

I'm always tempted, but I've never gotten past a few days. I'll probably try again. Last year I got like 3 pages in and gave up, so I might use that as a spring board and tell the story I started last year.

Oh yeah! 5th year, and hopefully 5th win! Last year I had a bunch of extra time so I actually wrote 100K, but this year there is no way that is feasible. I can do 50K though, I think.
My favorite part is the write ins and the awesome community that springs up every November. I've made so many awesome connections, both online and off! I also love the writing of course, and doing NaNo has given me so much more confidence to try other writing projects.

You know what, I think I'm going to try this. I enjoy writing when it's not required for school and since I'm done with that I won't have any other obligations. I've come to quite the crossroads in my own life and I think this could be rather therapeutic. Now I just need to figure out what I want to write about. Fortunately, I've got a couple of weeks! Thanks for this post :D

I heard about this a few years ago and I've been wanting to try it ever since! I think I would have to sign up under the youth area because I'm under 18...but still, I really want to do it! I honestly have no idea what I would write about!

^It's totally up to you. I was well under 18 my first year and I registered with the adult site. It just depends if you want to do the full 50K, really. (you can set your own goal on the Young Writers Program, but not on the main site.)

I'll be taking part this year. I don't have a plan yet, that's gonna start happening after Thursday this week because I have a music exam and I need to focus on that for the moment. I'm also aiming to make some write-ins in Melbourne this year too, now that I have my license, because I've never been to a write in before :D

This is my first year in a pre-professional dance program on top of my Highland classes and teacher training. If I wasn't insane enough for taking this all on at the same time, I must be incapable of reason adding NaNo... However, there is an hour on the bus each day begging to be occupied and sleepless nights freaking out about choreography that need an anxiety outlet, not to mention pre-loaded Starbucks cards that need to be used... The second my December exam tryouts aren't seeming like a good idea or my Highland suffers I'm dropping the 50K though.

Okay, I started to outline and my region is hosting a pre-plotting workshop type thing on Friday (bounce ideas off each other etc). I can't wait!

I'm really looking forward to attending the write-ins...the Box of Doom really helps the word count.

Yay!
This will be my second attempt. Last year I got about 25k words. But I am really gonna try to finish this year.

I have my idea... I think. 7 days and counting!

I don't write, but I have been thinking about doing this. I am constantly bored out of my mind and could probably use an outlet. Meeting new people would be nice and I would actually be able to attend some of the write-ins in my region, even though it is actually an hour drive. My only hang up is that I don't really want to discuss in detail with other people what I would be writing about, which seems like other people might think it is kind of weird. I know that every place is different, but can anyone tell me what a typical write or meet ups are like in their area?

I've always wanted to try, and this is the first year I won't have school to worry about, so I might give it a go!

3600+ words right now. It's a bit slow going. So romantic encounters, how much to describe how much to leave to the imagination? And I don't even mean graphically, there's no way I could write anything super graphic - this is no 50 shades or even slightly bodice ripping - but do I generally set it up and hint and imply or do I spell it out a little more literally and then let the reader imagine what comes next? Any advice?

I'm a bit behind. 4,609 words. Went to a write-in on Friday and wrote most of that. I think I let my characters figure out who the bad guy is too quickly....I might have to go back and add some stuff...

Sumayah - I think it would depend a bit on your characters. You can always put a lot into it know and later (after NaNo) you can edit it out or put more in.

Just under 9K, and finding it way tougher than last year. Already having issues with my plot, and my characters are a bit uncooperative, but I'm still chugging along.

Sumayah- When I read/write that type of scene I usually like to describe/read about what happened before, and what happened after, but none of the actual doing of it. I like it left somewhat vague. I find how they act and what they talk about after is usually more plot-relevant anyway.

Joined again this year. Same username as last year, BronzeLady77.

This is my third year NaNoing. I finished both the other times, as well. I hope to finish this year. I'm at just over 10,000 words for now.

Success to you all!!!

Just passed 10,000 as well! Going well at the moment, and really think I can squeeze another 40,000 out of my characters :D

I'm so behind! I only wrote about 200 words today. I've been glued to the tv with the election news.

I made my 50,000 today! The novel is NOT complete, but I will keep plugging away at it. I took the advice of a friend of mine and decided to make this year's NaNo therapeutic. So I took all of my issues (well not ALL) and I put it into a novel. I think this made the thing just fall out of my hands. I think I might do this every time I participate in a NaNo. It's great therapy.
