Hi All!
I've been dancing quite a few years now and tap is most definitely my weakest. I need some tips on how to teach myself wings, my teachers have tried by getting me to do wing exercises, which I can do fine, I can also do double wings fine, but single wings I CAN'T DO!!! It's very frustrating!
Does anyone have any tips!? I'm desperate!
:)

Three things:

- Make sure you have really good core strength
- ELEVATE
- RELAX

I had the biggest struggle with wings, initially because I just couldn't get quite enough airtime for the second beat. When I was strong enough, the thought of "eek, wings, these are HARD" made me tense up my feet and ankles too much.

The tension issue happened all over again when I came to do wings on one foot. Once I relaxed, it all came together. Tension is a tapper's kryptonite.

all good tips given above. Also, I have found that if I focus my attention more on what my other leg is doing, it helps. For example, if I am doing a wing standing on my right leg, I focus on my left knee swinging out and up which helps give a counter force to the other leg winging out if that makes sense at all.
