Flexible Shoulder blades and Pas?

(I am a girl)

I have very flexible shoulder blades and having a really hard time engaging my back and not just allowing my shoulder blades to move in and pinch while partnering, and my teacher was saying that it is happening because there is a lot of flexibility but not enough strength to counter it. Often happens in one hand promenades/ balances etc.

Are there exercises that could help this, tips etc, and is this common?

I have a similar problem and my personal trainer has me doing an exercise called "YWT." I've found that this exercise also has helped strengthen my core and lower back. It's an awesome exercise! I usually do three sets of ten and hold each position for a couple seconds.

Here's a link to a video showing the exercise. I usually lift my chest up off the floor to make it harder. . . .

Good luck, hope this helps :)
