So, starting last night our house started to hum and the floors started to vibrate. I did some googling and found some solutions, that we will try when my dad gets home. However, should there be any immediate concern about this? Has this happened to you?

Quite possible it is nothing more than air trapped in your pipes. Is there a water line going somewhere in your house that is not used that often, that was recently run? Also, was maybe work being done on the water lines that serve your home (municipality flushing fire hydrants?). Air trapped in the lines is usually the culprit. One other thing also will cause this....when water is run through the pipes s - l- o -w -l -y. Again, it is the air thing, where the pipe is not totally full of water, and the trapped air causes the pipes to rattle. Try running the water faucet you are using full open.

Have you discovered the source of the humming and vibrating?

It happens the most often when a particular toilet is flushed. My dad adjusted the valve and it's still doing it, just not as loud. It will stop if another toilet is flushed (which is what we have been doing). It also did it when my parents were putting more water in the pool. So I have no idea what that all means.

About a mile down the road they are doing some street construction. I'm not sure if they've done anything to anything that would affect us here.

And it has stopped. No idea why it stopped, but it has stopped.

My guess it was external to your house. Street or water line repair could be a prime source.

May have been air in the pipes causes water hammer...sounds like it cleared itself.
