A new game, Add To The Story. (karma: 3)

I know this has been done before but it's been a while and I thought maybe we would start it up again. I will start the story and then everyone will add to it. A line or 2 is fine but if you want to post more, go for it! Maybe when we are finished, we will have a really cool story! I know you guys are smart so I know we can all do it. I hope everyone will want to play.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. July 20. We were going on vacation.

Or at least we thought it would be a vacation.

But it turned out to be more like an episode of "The Twilight Zone."

I'm not sure how it happened, but there was this big rig blocking the road.

We were stuck! I honked my horn but the big rig wouldn't budge.

So I floored the accelerator and charged toward him, uttering a few choice words!

I kept laying on my horn so he would hear me and he finally moved out of the way and let me pass.

As I pulled along side his truck attempting to pass, I realized a young boy was driving the rig. An older man was slumped in the passenger seat waving his arms, instructing the child how to keep the truck between the lines

I am convinced that the older man was drunk.

I knew I had to get away from here. A young boy hounded by an old drunk would drive even worse than a log hauler.

Spoiler: Show
NOTE: Per my experience, an Oregon log hauler is dangerously crazy. If Rush Limbau ever rode shotgun with one, he would take up the cause of the spotted owl.

The child's big imploring eyes met mine as I attempted to push my big 8 cylinder conversion van to pass the Peterbilt. The terror on his angelic face spoke to my conscience and I knew I had to help. "Make room", I told my family. "We're picking up a couple of passengers." I signaled to the little boy to pull over and amid flying gravel and dust, he eventually made it onto the shoulder of the road.

Keep On Dancing*

I had him unlock the door, and told him to climb in. Then I called 911 and explained what was going on.

The cops never showed up and when I tried to call 911 again, the line went dead after a scream on the other side.
I knew at that moment that there was another reason why this younger boy had to drive out of his town.

The old man was at the door with a ball peen hammer, apparently ready to break in. The arm waving had been from struggle, and his arms still shook a bit. Now he looked not drunk but nearly possessed. And all this simultaneous with failure of the 911 line!

No police meant that the 911 system had its hands full, and maybe the police as well. Were we being attacked from outer space?
Spoiler: Show
Feel free to ignore this post and build on the previous post because there are so many uncertainties here.
Had the old man been taken aboard too? If so, why hadn't he been watched closely?
Did the conversion van stay there or move on? If the latter, which direction and how far?

I think now that I am spacing out. Aliens? What was I thinking? There is probably no cell service here in the mountains. I hate when that happens.

Maybe we should find a cave in the mountain to hide in.

The young boy grabbed my hand (kids have always liked me) and we started walking. Let's hope we don't get lost before we find shelter.

Oh my gosh, it's a bear! Lay down on the ground! I hear if you play dead, they won't bother you.

Wait...maybe it was a roar and not a growl. Lions and tigers and bears...Oh My!

Now I've got that darn Wizard of Oz line in my head! Don't move and he will smell us, think we are dead, and leave. When that happens and he is far enough away, we will run as fast as our legs can carry us away from the bear.

Or maybe we can just skip off down the yellow brick road!

Such weird thoughts kept racing through my head until the bear finally passed and continued on his way. Then the boy's comment startled me. "Where's Grandpa?"

I had forgotten about the old man.

I didn't know what to say to him about Grandpa. What could I say?

I told him that Grandpa had probably gone to look for help for us. I mean, what else could I say at that point without frightening the little boy?
