I Can't Understand What Is Causing Me To Get This Notification

Have any of you been getting a notification "Ice Cyber Crime. Your Computer Has Been Blocked"? I've been getting this sort of notification for the past three days. I have no idea what's been causing me to get this notification on me desktop computer. My brother has been getting the same notification on his computer at home and on his computer at work. For about a week before we started getting the notification popping up on our computer, a notice had started dropping down that said "Windows Pii34 has stopped working". It's been getting very frustrating when we get this notice of "Ice Cybercrime. Your Computer Has Been Blocked". I know I haven't been doing anything wrong or illegal.

If any of you can give me any help with what to do about this, I'd very much appreciate it.

I hope it isn't ransomware. I got a notice a few months ago that someone had encrypted my files and wanted me to pay 500 Euros ransoms for the key to decrypt them. It was a spare computer and I didn't have much on it, so I just formatted and reloaded windows. There is a way to undo this.

I'm not quite sure what Ice"????? is trying to do or what they are blocking. When I get stuff like that, I go to system restore (always a good thing to know how to use) and back it up to some point before you got the notice. Google "system restore" for cookbooks on how to do this.

I saw on this notice, "Any attempt to unlock this computer by yourself will result in a fine of" I can't remember what amount of a fine. I just spoke with my cousin to see if she's been getting this notice on her computer. She told me she hasn't been having any problems, and not to click on anything, as the notice could be a virus. I have not clicked on anything. The only way I've had to get out of the notice has been to shut down my computer.

I think Chaconne is on the right track. If you quoted exactly in your post "Ice Cybercrime" I think I can shed more light on it.

First, like many scams, whomever is doing this one, either does not have very good grammar skills and/or they are in a foreign country and are typing away in broken English.

"Ice" as it is being used in the notice you are receiving probably means: (US) Department of Homeland Security (DHS)--Immigration and Customs Enforcement e.g.: US ICE. "Cybercrime" being their Cybercrimes Division.

Truth be told, DHS ICE is indeed one of the nations premier cybercrimes law enforcement investigative agencies and they esp. specialize in doing a butt load of Child Porn/Child Sex Crime/Trafficking investigations. How US ICE got into the business I am not sure, but their are one of the leading Child Sex Crime protective law enforcement agencies in the United States. They do their Child Porn sting operations in conjunction with your state and/or police agencies------and Good On Them!!!

Obviously, you and your brother have not done anything wrong or illegal, because if you had, trust me, the DHS ICE Cybercrimes folks would not be sending you eMails letting you know you have been naughty and locking up your computer---What they do instead, is show up unannounced, in person, at your front door with a whole bunch of other law enforcement officers, all with guns drawn, to serve on you a Search Warrant, and most likely, next take you "downtown" to have a pleasant chat with you.

What you are dealing with is some type of computer virus I am sorry to say that your machine picked up. It's probably a Trojan, that snuck in through a legitimate looking website or eMail you opened, and it has now taken up residence on your hard drive somewhere. Furthermore, since your brother is getting it also, it looks to me like it has also found your eMail lists and has sent itself out to the folks on your eMail address lists.

This could just be a person's a hack job, just to be malicious affirming in their small minds that they have the skills to do this, or as Chaccone said it could be leading to something bigger like taking control of your system and holding it for ransom. Something which may appear over the next few login's.

Hope this helps to explain your message you are getting and where it possibly came from.

I did some checking and there is an ICE Cybercrime virus. The bad guys are making you think it is the US ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) which would not contact you by email even if they had a reason to. There is also an FBI Cybercrime virus. I personally have not encountered this one but if you Google ICE cybercrime, there are some cookbooks on how to remove it. In theory you anti-virus should be able to catch it and remove it provided you have kept it up to date. There is a free (initially) tool call Malwarebytes (I think microsoft has something to do with this. Which will do a free scan and removal. I've used it several times with success.

Right now I'd check your anti virus (or get one AVG is pretty good and free, so is Avast) and have it scan your whole computer.

This link show three ways to get rid of it. malwaretips.com . . .

We just got our computer back from the computer repair technicians. They too said it was likely a rogue virus. They worked out the virus, and installed an anti-virus.

It's great to have our computer back :) .
