StrengtheningGood Gym exercises for dancers?

I recently joined my local gym. And I want to create a work out program for myself that will help to strengthen and condition my body outside of class, to improve my performance IN class. Anyone with any advice or experience, would be greatly appreciated.

If you're doing exercises without a trainer or instructor it's going to be just the same as in a dance class without a teacher, our strong muscles take over and don't let the weak ones (the ones we need to work) get a look in.
Does your gym offer fitness classes? Ones where the instructor watches and corrects their clients, not where they get their work out on your time. I suggest you sign up for those, Yoga, Pilates or barre classes are all very popular, if you want something a bit more extreme I like TRX it certainly works your upper body strength which is something all female dancers need. The quality of the instruction in all of these classes will make or break the class, just as it does in dance.
