Just curious to know how old people were when they started pointe - and in what country?

I started pointe at 15, but at that point I'd only been dancing for about 2 years. I'm from the US :)

I was 10.5 years old. Not ideal, but I did start ballet when I was 3. This was in Australia and my teacher was a Bolshoi graduate.

I was 24. I did ballet for a few years as a kid (but didn't do pointe yet), stopped as a teenager, then got back into it at around 20. I eventually went on pointe at 24.

My daughter was 9, we live in Qld Australia. This was quite young though most girls here are around 11 or 12 here when they go en pointe unless they are particularly strong and showing good technique early on.

47 yrs old. Never really had time to start it until just the last year or so. Been dancing since I was 25/26 off and on as my work schedule and work travel would allow. I'm in the good 'ol USofA.

I was 11, looking back now as teacher I wouldn't have put myself on pointe if it were my choice, there was no way I was ready even though I was in a full time vocational program and training everyday. There's no rush for kids to go on pointe, they're not going to fall behind because they're teachers think 15 is a better age in fact those dancers are probably luckier because their growth plates will be more fused and their bones will have had a chance to ossify more effectively and that means they'll be stronger and have a more stable technique.

I was trained in England.

I was 10 but that was a million years ago when they acted like they were protecting children by not letting us go up until 9. The other girls in my class were 9 and I was very self conscious about being so old.

I stopped class after the next year because of family finances and when I went back at 14, I didn't go up again until I was 15-1/2. It was much harder than when I was 10, but I was determined and by the time I was 16 I was as strong as any other girl in my class.

I don't let the kids at my studio en pointe until they are at least 12 and they need approval from their doctor.

Keep On Dancing*

I was eight when I started ballet, eight and a half when I started pretty pointe and when I was nine I was on pointe. I know it was early but I had very strong ankles and nicely developed feet.

At my school, in the USA, girls start pointe at age 10.5 given that they're at a proficient technique and strength level for their age. Typically the only kids that really start at 10.5 are the kids in the pre-pro program. Others start around 11 or 12. I started when I was thirteen, about a month after I came to the school.

I believe I had just turned 9,I did however have very strong feet and high arches as well as being quite advanced at Ballet, in my opinion the dancers in Russia at very prestigious academies go en pointe far too early at only 7/8 when the bones are just far too soft and brittle :)

My first time on pointe, I was 11 years old. I had started dancing when I was three. My teacher had a few criteria we had to meet to prove our feet and ankles were strong enough to go on pointe before she let us do it.

Now, after a few years of no dancing, I am far from being able to go back on pointe anytime soon. But I certainly look forward to the day when I can get on there again!
