I am new to this site but not new to the dance world. I have been teaching for 44 years and owned my own school for 15 years. I am now managing a not for profit dance school in the suburbs of Chicago and we are trying to decide if we should be a competitive school. We have done two competitions each year for the past four years but we feel the pressure to do more.
I am struggling with keeping our values and morality intact and not giving in to the skimpy costumes and questionable movements. It seems like in our area you see a lot of that from the more competitive groups. I also want to maintain strong technique in our dancers.
Most of our families are Christian and I feel torn on how to proceed.
We have a very good reputation in our area and I don't want that to suffer.
Any suggestions for me?
