Mixing AB and Non-AB stones

I have been asked to up the "bling" on an OC dancer's dress. Topaz stones match the embroidery around the gold sequin applique and cross hatched embroidery on the sleeves exactly and sort of disappear. Would you mix Topaz AB with the Topaz to make the embroidery stand out? The base color is emerald green.

There are Crystal AB stones on the white satin portions of the dress.

Thanks.

Here are my initial thoughts, in no particular order:

*If you are using Swarovski brand crystals, there is a noticeable difference in the color appearance of topaz vs. topaz AB. Using them together on the embroidery would look as though you are using 2 different colors. That is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your goal for the dress's final appearance.

* What are your goals in adding more crystals? Do you want more of an appearance of bling/sparkle or do you want people to notice the stones as a separate element of the design? If the first goal, use topaz. If the second, consider the topaz AB.

* The AB coating on the topaz should reflect more of the emerald green base color. Again, that's either good or bad depending on your goals and personal taste.

Do you have the topaz abs on hand? If so, dry apply them and view the dress from afar under different types of lighting. Remember, the dress is usually seen onstage from at least 10 to 20 feet away--farther for majors.

Good luck with your project. Post photos of the final product, please.
