Question on sewing the vamp vs. vamp elastic

Hi there, I often see dancers who sew their vamps with crochet thread (see photo) - is the effect/reason the same as the use of vamp elastic, as mentioned on the link below? i.e. to achieve the effect as if you had a longer vamp and prevent going over too far? Or does the the sewing of the vamp with thread have other reasons?

www.dancemania.biz . . .

THANKS!!!

It's done for the same reason but a dancer who uses darning thread will want a more secure feeling across the top of their vamp. It will have no give to it, unlike the elastic that's stretchy.

Ah, I see... thanks a lot for explaining the difference! So I'm going to try that sewing technique on a pair of pointes which have more of a low vamp... thanks again!!
