Constructing feis floors for the first time. What's the best mix for a good finish for the floors? Something that will protect the floors, but not be too slippery. We are looking at treblekote, but I'm having trouble getting in touch with them and I think we need to go ahead with our own design.

Thanks!

our floor is made of oriented strand board (OSB) It has no coating on it. It has not been slippery in 8 years, except when it gets dusty. Then I damp mop it and all is good again. Nice sound. No knots!

I know other people use Marley (rolls out over floor) but I believe it is fairly expensive. I have heard of others using shower pan liner which they get at the local home improvement store.

I have heard of people using Treblekote, and also chalkboard paint.

EDIT: whoops! Just noticed you are talking about floors at a feis, not in a basement.

Thanks for the reply, though. Wondering if chalkboard paint works on Feis stages or if it will mark up too easily...

For our Highland competition (where we have Irish demonstrations, too) we use heavy duty pond liner. It's basically the same stuff as ballet floors, but it's not as pretty (it's gray and dull). But although it's not exactly dead cheap, it is (I believe) only about half the price of a proper dance floor.

Thanks Rosalind. We have that as a possibility..just not sure it will work money wise after building stages. Hoping to find a good non stick finish. We're experimenting.
