Pain during stretching

Every time I do the frog stretch I get a lot of pain in my hips. They feel like want to pop. I'm hypoflexive which means I'm unusually tight in the muscles. Is my bone structure the problem with the stretch? Any advise?

Are you doing the frog stretch on your back or stomach? If you're not already pretty flexible that way, trying to do that stretch on your stomach can be super painful and even harmful. Try it on your back instead, it's a lot less pressure on your knees and hips.

^Absolutely.

Also (bad news), that stretch is most effective for young dancers who are still growing. Once you're done with puberty, your turnout is likely limited by your bone structure and not by your muscles. For those people (like me) the frog stretch is useless at best and harmful if you overdo it. Remember - stretching should be uncomfortable, but NEVER painful.
