New to Irish dance

I just switched from over 20 years of ballet, and about ten years of tap and clogging into Irish dance. I obviously have enough turnout, but could someone give me tips on how to cross my legs more?

I Always tell my dancers to keep their thighs together as much as possible while they dance. That way they simply cannot uncross. Don't focus on your knees, just press your thighs together.

Equally, to get the arms to stay still without tensing up and doing that 'Hey look, I can Riverdance!' stance: press your upper arms against the side of your chest. The tension in your upper arms helps to keep the lower arms relaxed and still.

Both methods are not perfect, you will need to focus, but I have found that it helps a lot.

My teacher used to make us hold a piece of paper between our upper thighs and not drop it, although that only works for certain steps. Alternately, you can focus of having your knees interlocked, as crossed legs will come as a result of that.
Drills also work well for this. If you are doing hard shoe and have a mirror, basic trebles to a heavy jig making sure there is a 'diamond' between your feet is a good way to develop cross-over.
