About The Next Step Dance, KodiakThe Next Step Dance Kodiak (formerly Little School of Dance) is seeking dynamic, skilled teachers to join our rock star team! We currently have approximately 160 student, ages 3-adult, and would love to talk with you if you are interested in coming on board as either our new tap, jazz, or hip hop teacher. Next Step Dance Kodiak is Kodiak's dance studio for all ages. At Next Step Dance, we believe that artistic expression has the capacity to inspire and enrich the lives of people of all backgrounds. We provide high-quality dance instruction to all ages, taught with enthusiasm, and provide students with a safe, accepting, and motivating environment in which to learn and grow. Our instruction emphasizes the importance of correct technique, having fun while building self-esteem and a positive sense of self, experiencing the discipline and freedom of movement, and working as an individual within a group. Our staff leads by positive example, provides excellent technical demonstration and training, and encourages our students to strive for excellence both within and outside the dance studio. Our studio is ballet-based, and we follow the Vaganova curriculum. We believe strongly in continuing education for our teaching staff, and strive to provide opportunities for travel and classes to continue mastery of our dance teaching skills. Next Step Dance Kodiak is seeking teachers for the following positions:
Tap Teacher (beginning, intermediate, beginning adult)
Jazz Teacher (beginning, intermediate, advanced)
Hip hop Teacher (beginning, intermediate, beginning adult)
Instructors must be able to commit to classes held September 2017-May 2018. Our classes are held Monday-Friday between 4:00-9:00pm. Our school can be flexible with dates and times for classes if availability is given prior to the Fall Schedule being posted.
In addition to teaching curriculum-based weekly class, teachers must attend paid staff meetings approximately every 6 weeks, choreograph class dances and possibly solo or ensemble pieces for annual spring recital, and assist with production of spring recital (1 weekend day for four weeks leading up to recital, plus daily rehearsals week of recital, and any additional time rehearsing solos or ensembles). Rehearsal time is paid.
Teachers should have strong technical skill in their dance style, as well as an upbeat, positive personality and ability to work with a variety of age ranges and skill levels. Qualifications in other styles (tumbling/acro/contemporary) are a plus. Our teachers must understand the need to choose age appropriate music (clean lyrics) and choreography. We offer a supportive, fun, and collaborative work environment.
