Hello teachers! I teach contemporary I for middle school ages. Sometimes I browse on YouTube for floor work, center phrases, combos etc, and I find some really good ones that I think would be effective for my class. Is this considered "stealing" or is it ok to use other teachers' short technique phrases in your own class every now and then? Thanks for reading!

If you are you are using the phrases for a practice combo or to teach your students some new moves, then I would say that it is okay. If you are using the phrases as part of the choreography for your recital, it is actually considered stealing. If you especially like one move in the phrase you are totally okay to insert that move into your routine as long as you don't use the phrase. You are also okay to take the moves in the phrase and change their order. But, if you do take the phrase and put it into your routine then it is technically dance plagiarism.

Oh I definitely understand about stealing choreography. I can't believe some people do that! Thanks for your input! I didn't want to do something wrong if I wasn't absolutely sure.
