Hi there!
I'm looking for music to fit the theme of Wizard of Oz. I've scoured the "Themes And Song Ideas To Fit Themes" sticky thread and didn't come up with much. The more creative the better! =D
This is for a complete recital, ages 5-13. This is what I plan to use so far...
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Katherine McPhee
Somewhere Over the Rainbow remix www.youtube.com . . .
Hand Clapping Song - Tropkillaz
Slide Some Oil to Me - Ne-yo
Lion - Saint Mesa
Yellow Brick Road - Xavi, XOVOX
Rule the Planet remix - DAnny Elfman (Planet of the Apes)
Low - Todrick Hall (severely edited, lol)
No Place Like Home/Home - Todrick Hall
Ease On Down the Road - Diana Ross & Michael Jackson

I still need, Munchkins, Glinda, Wicked Witch, Tornado, Crows, Trees, Poppies, Emerald City and any more you can think of that will fit the theme.
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

This sounds like a crazy suggestion, but "Power" or maybe "That Power" by Kanye West, for a hip-hop class. We saw a giant production last year, themed Wizard of Oz that used that song, and my son and I looked at each other and went "There's no logical reason this song fits into this story, and it's SO. AWESOME." This first line of the chorus is "No one man should have all that power", it's perfect for the man behind the curtain!

There are some "evil" songs from the Descendants that might work for the wicked witch. We did a Wizard of Oz production a couple years ago and used some of the Pentatonix medley "Wizard of Ahhs."

Here is the playlist of music that I ended up using for my show. Almost nothing was used in it's entirety, rather it was cut, edited and mixed together to create scenes. If you are ever looking for something specific and want an edited piece, feel free to reach out me and I can always send you what you need. zugzwangstudiosdance@gmail.com

This is what I call a digging list... a list you can dig through that fit a theme of Wizard of Oz. So many variations and options, always a good place to start when trying to find something to fit the theme.

I will post in the sticky thread too ;)

The Rainbow Connection

Up, Up, and Away (In My Beautiful Balloon)

It's Not Easy Being Green

Follow the Yellow Brick Road (we did a great Tap I number to this last year)

Hit The Road Jack

Waltz of the Flowers

Dust In The Wind (Kansas dustbowl...)

We also did a silly "Funky Town" beginner Jazz with the kids dressed as Monkeys for something....

There is a nice cd...The Muppets....The Wizard of Oz.... and there are several songs that are not part of the original Wizard of Oz movie. Also..don't forget the Broadway musical Wicked.

Good luck
