Should I lose weight beforebeginning dance classes?

So I am 5'1" and weight 150 lbs. I want to start dance classes (like hip hop or jazz), but I'm very unconfident, unathletic, not flexible, easily tired, bad at balancing, and not too mention awkward.

Before I start my hip hop or jazz class, should I get into shape, lose weight, and increase my endurance? I am embrassed to go in because of my weight.
Have any tips! Feel free to share tips and trocls

How old are you?

I don't know about the studios in your area but in mine beginner adult classes cater to all shapes and sizes! Some of the best jazz and hip hop dancers i've worked with are curvier. Dance is also a great way to get in shape and build up endurance in itself. I would suggest trying out a few different classes and finding one that you feel comfortable and happy in.

I agree. Over the years I have known great dancers of all shapes and sizes. Don't let it stop you!

Thank you. I guess it's just about gaining confidence. Do you guys know how I would go about that? I'm already shy in normal classes, so dance is an even bigger step for me.
