We believe that dance lessons are life lessons. From an early age, our students are able to grasp the value of being a responsible and respectful member of society, someone who is accountable, is able to get along with others, has a disciplined work ethic, a refined etiquette, a graceful attitude and a confident demeanor. Traditions such as classroom etiquette, dress code, dance history and classical technique are combined with current dance trends and styles to produce a knowledgeable and well-rounded performer. Many of the values young students learn as part of a thoughtfully crafted arts program are character traits needed for a successful and satisfying life. As educators, we believe these lessons are just as important as the dance education we provide, and we develop our programs and our in-class presentations with this in mind. Our studio is family-oriented, and primarily recreational. Our students know the studio is a place where they are valued, where they will be challenged in a positive manner, and where they will be encouraged each class to improve and become their best selves. We believe a teacher's influence on a student's future, regardless of their age, extends far beyond what goes on in the classroom. Our teaching philosophy is centered on instilling a passion for dance, healthy movement, the performing arts and challenging ourselves while building self-esteem and confidence in every student. NSDK mission statement: At Next Step Dance Kodiak, we believe that artistic expression has the capacity to inspire and enrich the lives of people of all ages. We provide high-quality instruction to all ages, taught with enthusiasm, and provide students with a safe, accepting, and motivating environment in which to learn and grow. Our instruction emphasizes the importance of correct technique, having fun while building self-esteem and a positive sense of self, experiencing the discipline and freedom of movement, and working as an individual within a group. Our staff leads by positive example, facilitates dance among all ages of people, and encourages our students to strive for excellence both within and outside the dance studio.
