Maybe a lame idea, but, have actual newspapers scattered around the stage. Have dancers move up to various newspapers, using syncopated movements. Segue into actually picking up the newspaper, shaking it, flowing with it, tearing it into strips.
If you want a more a/v aspect, set up slide shows or, even a slide projector that shows headlines, have the headlines zoom into where the dancing area is, in and out, maybe have dancers carry big pieces of postboard with news headlines on them. Maybe have someone read headlines out loud, or read classifieds out loud.

I searched 'words associated with newspaper.'
Here are just a few: correspondent, comic, front page, editor, scoop, newspaper woman, extra.
I would use the synonym as the name of the dance, and then select a corresponding song.
Music from Newsies is an obvious choice.
