Dear Friends:
I would like all of our African American dancers to learn about the life work of Katherine Dunham. She was a beautiful girl who studied anthropology on site in the Caribbean. Her published works reveal a person that would go through physical and mental torture in a calm detached manner to properly investigate indigenous culture. She was tortuously initiated into Voodoo to report analytical findings, later published in her books.
Her dance company was based on anthropological studies, but you must read her books that can be found in your local library.
Best Wishes,
Odey

Yeah my dad is german, scottish, and sweedish. My mom is one-half white, and one-fourth native american, and one-fourth black. (Yeah one white parent, one half black half native american. And yeah, and if you break down my roots even further, my great-grandma was one-half white. I got a DNA test and I'm 75% caucasian-american. YAY for me...I really don't care. I serioulsy don't understand what the big deal is.
