I agress that you have to make the songs age approapiate. But lyrical is not just about heartache and lost love! It can be about happy things, listen to disney music.

Try a song like "Colors of the Wind." Most disney songs are great. Try not to find anything about love or something like that.

From a mom of a 10 year old -

God Loves You - Jaci Velasquez
Hands - Jewel
Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston
Lovely Day - Bill Withers
Grandma's Hands - Bill Withers
As I lay Me Down - Sophie B Hawkins

Disney is great and all - but it gets used, used and and used again. Just some older, maybe sometimes used a lot ideas.... :)

I would suggest "Digital Love" by Daft Punk...OK so is really upbeat but excellent to work with when you have very young kids that doesn't get interested in that sad grown up songs

One of our younger age group of girls did a song called "Eeyore's Lullaby". It's off some Winnie the Pooh soundtrack. It's hard to find, but it is really sweet.

i've seen kids do mister mistoffelees from cats and i think starlight sequence from starlight express is good and also like so many people have said any song from disney is good especially the slow, expressive ones for example, reflection or when you believe they're especially good, there's also a song called for the children but its not from a disney film but i cant remember where its from
i dont know if these have been suggested yet

I absolutely agree that lyric should not be introduced to dancers under the age of 10. Even at the age of 10 it should be done tenderly---with appropriate songs. It is crucial that the dancer can connect to the song in some way. The average "under 10" dancer has not experienced heartache or loss of any kind! Therefore---there are plenty of uplifting, lighter songs for 10-13 year old dancers---don't give them anything too heavy---they won't be able to connect to the song.

I really like "concrete angel" by Martina McBride. Its really good for a solo.

Also, the younger girls at my studio are dancing to "when she loved me". They have a really neat idea, there dressed like porceline dolls and its really cute.

Just some ideas!

gravity and can you hear me are both sung by Cindy Morgan. I love her and I've used alot of her music for my lyrical groups. Always effective b/c her voice is so powerful!! It's tough to find her music now though b/c she no longer has a recording contract which is really sad.
