This ladies and germs, was one of the shows I worked with at the Edinburgh fringe festival this year!

C, venue 34, Edinburgh Festival Fringe
5.00pm, 30th July to 25th August (not 12th) 2003

How would it feel to be immortal? It’s something we all strive for - through cosmetics and children and art and religion. Some pursue fame and glory, some of us just try to avoid death by eating fibre and wearing seatbelts. We kill most of our time trying to stop time from killing us. And generally with pretty limited success.

But what if we succeeded? What if we became immortal? That’s the question at the heart of CORPUS, an original new musical comedy inspired by Professor Gunther Von Hagens BODYWORLDS exhibition, that tells the story of several characters’ various efforts to win immortality.

In their darkly whimsical show Messrs O’Higgins and Berliner pack a thermos full of wit and sparkle and offer their audience a comical philosophical jaunt through the issues surrounding plastination, with lovable characters, macabre humour, and more musical gems than is strictly tasteful. The work of a tremendously talented cast, inspired design and heartbreaking orchestration make CORPUS the only show worth going to between now and your eventual but inevitable death.

Although this show was cut down from the original 2 hours 45 minutes to 1 hour and a half, the chunks that were missing were neatly sewn over and we get the main jist of what has been cut. The songs are amazing; Jonny has really outdone himself with this one!

Directed by Ben Ockrent and co-written by Edinburgh’s notorious songwriter and toast fiend Jonny Berliner, CORPUS features the Jonny Berliner band live on stage. Look out for the palatinate Barbie dolls...

Fabby Show! Catch if it ever comes your way!
