Audition – Saturday, October 4, 2003 8:00 AM -11:00 AM

Rehearsals are at Mills College Rehearsal Studio, Oakland CA from 8am-11am Saturdays and Sundays immediately.(once on campus, ask security guard for directions to the rehearsal studio).

All roles are NON-PAYING/VOLUNTEER

This is a period piece with a modern flair - we require actors of African American descent and Caucasian.

Crew – Some knowledge of theatre “behind the scenes” – pull cards, set changes, etc

Sound and Lighting – Experience in stage lighting. Must have their own tapes of environmental sounds (i.e. birds, crickets). Basic knowledge of theatre and equipment. Must be available for Saturday and Sunday rehearsals and performances

Singers/Actors – Performing with a group 2-3 dancers. Some bit parts, on-stage fill ins (people shopping, walking, etc)

Stage Manager – Calls all rehearsals, before or after opening. Maintains the artistic intentions of the Director and Producer after opening.

Videographer - Must have own equipment. Available to tape shows and some rehearsals.

Graphic Artist – Help to make flyers/postcards/programs


ACTORS
(2 Minute Audition)

Prepare memorized material of your choice. Include both humorous and dramatic pieces to suggest the range of your ability. Your introduction is included in the 2 minutes. Auditionees will be stopped after the allotted time.


SINGERS/ACTORS
(2.5 Minute Audition)

Prepare several appropriate bars of a musical number in addition to memorized spoken material. Your combined effort should demonstrate the versatility of your performance ability. An accomplished pianist will not be provided. Taped accompaniment is advised. Discussion Your introduction is included in the 2.5 minutes. Auditionees will be stopped after allotted time.

Singers/Actors should also consider participating in the dance audition. Most producers auditioning Singer/Actors want them for roles in which movement is required. They will therefore have a strong interest in the dance auditions. We highly recommend you audition in both areas.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL PERFORMERS

If you receive a callback(s), be prepared to supply photos (multiple copies may be needed) as well as a firm date you would be available to begin work. Photographs and complete résumés will be collected during callback appointments. If requested, be prepared to provide names and phone numbers of current references. You will only need to provide photos and complete résumés if you receive a callback. Note: no callbacks begin before 5:00 pm.

DANCERS

Dancers warm up individually and perform a pre-prepared minimally 4 eight-count routine. Choreographer will be looking at dance style and technique. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for movement.

TECHNICIANS, DESIGNERS, MANAGEMENT, NON-PERFORMERS

Individual, 10-15 minute interview appointments will be scheduled. Bring résumés and portfolios to share with producers during each interview you schedule.
