After considering the weight poll on Tell dance.net and people's comments on this issue, I've decided that height and weight posts with the author's specific measurements are no longer useful or allowed anywhere on dance.net . . .

General discussions about height/weight without mentioning your specific measurements are allowed only on the Health & Nutrition forum. No more of the "am I too fat/overweight/too tall/too short" posts, please. I'm also going to work on adding a Height/Weight FAQ to the site.
For pre-existing comments of this sort, I and the moderators will just lock them down. For new ones, we'll simply remove these comments and send a PM to the user regarding this policy. In the end, I think this will promote health over fad/dieting and still allow useful discussions on weight/height on the Health & Nutritiion forum.
Thanks for understanding!

Hooray!
I realize that dancers seem to run a higher risk of eating disorders, so am glad the nutrition board is there. With so many weight threads it was frustrating not to be able to post my "toned and healthy" lecture on every one and the people who are really insecure about such things wouldn't believe it anyway.
I had also seen one disturbing thread with a photo of an emaciated model extolling her beauty - I hope things like that are going the way of the height/weight posts also.

is it necissary? en>fr fr>en By BalletPrincess2 Comments: 67, member since Thu Dec 13, 2001On Wed Feb 13, 2002 04:42 PM
Though sometimes these posts are annoying, since they do consume much of the health/nutrition board, I think that they are an important issue to young women, and dancers. Posts like "am I too fat?" seem to be somewhat of a last resort to some to get a little positive encouragement or a little self esteem that could be helpful in the longrun. If someone is trying to get advice on healthy weight loss, or want to know if its necissary, I dont see much of a problem with them asking. Giving ones measurments doesn't really say much about them, but sometimes is relevant. I dont fully understand why you are no longer allowing it, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding the concept.
Happy Dancing,

I am sooo glad you guys are resricting weight comments because people are always saying things like "you have to be anorexic to do this or that"... or that "I'm too fat" and so on. When in fact anyone who wants to dance can. And if you were anorexic, you probably would be too weak to dance. Thanks guys!!! |
