As some of you may or may not be aware, dance.net now has a philosophy board.

All religious topics must go on this board.

Any topics posted on any other boards, including this one, will be removed.

I am religious in my own way.Yes I do believe in God, and that he gave me the talent to dance(I'm still dancing)though I'm what most of you would call old.
I feel guided in all that I do and yes even that I found this site.I am happy to share anything that I can, I just have to find the right questions to answer.I really love this site

This is strange to find here. All topics are about dance and teaching, religion isn't part of my studio and it's not something to force in a recreational studio.

Listen. It's not that the mods don't want the religious topics showing up where 'other' people can see it and get offended. It's that if you post something that is on a religious subject, you might as well post it on the RELIGION board. Would you post a tap question on the general board? A stretching question on the fashion board? First off, it's going to get moved, even if you are partially on topic with your chosen board. It will get more traffic in the correct board. And you want more replies, yes?

It's not that they are censoring what you say or are trying to HIDE religion. If you look at the religion board, it's not separated by religion. Everything is all together. It's just a matter of organization, and things being in the right place.

This I feel is important.

Take for instance that I live in Utah. This is a HEAVY LDS state. and alot of teachers (both dance and non-dance) that are LDS (Mormon) here feel it is their life duty to impress upon their students that their beliefs are the only way.

Now. As far as Dance is concerned... As many know there are costumes that are not exactly the most modest as far as some religions are concerned. They advertise "We only use MODEST costumes" Is that really fair? Meh... who am I to judge? I dont care for that which is why I have found a private teacher.

Sorry, there really is no point to this. I was just making a statement is all :)

I have no idea what this thread is about, but I want to address this. I live in Utah, and have danced in numerous dance studios and schools for the past 19 years. I have NEVER run into any dance teachers or SOs who have tried to push their beliefs on me, or incorporated religion into it at all. Where have you been going?

And it is true that the Mormon religion places an emphasis on modesty. They like to have, if possible, shoulders and stomachs covered, shorts not too short...etc. It's nothing out of the ordinary, they just dont like to show too much. I dont see what the problem is with them advertising that they are modest. What is not fair about that? Would you prefer your student be scantily clad?

This thread was created almost 5 years ago, when the Philosophy board was created. I can't believe it's been ressurected, that's hilarious.

I'm new to this site so please forgive me if this is addressed elsewhere on this board.

Does anyone teach Liturgical Dance?

I would love to teach it at my studio but worship at my church (Roman Catholic)is very structured, although musically beautiful.

It seems to me that Spirituality and Dance are naturally linked.

I welcome all suggestions.
