For me it's the Earl of Errol because of the leaps at the end! Most people just do changes, but my teacher thinks the leaps will help for stamina and things, and make us stand out on stage (as long as our leaps are well practised and done neatly!). Next up would be the flora, as it has so many shuffles !

I think the Earl of Errol is the most challenging national dance... it certainly makes my thighs burn!

Well I don't know all the premier nationals yet, but I really used to find the flora exhausting. It is much harder to do than the other nationals I know (lilt, johnny, v. maid). My daughter calls it a highland dance in a dress!

It all depends on what you're good at. If you have not-so-great turn out and forward 2nd aerial positions (like me), Earl of Errol is extremely difficult. If you have balance issues, I think Flora is hard. If you don't have much stamina, Jig and Hornpipe can be killers.

Jig. Definitely the Jig. I recall once I'd practiced a four-step Jig, and then found out at the competition that it was five steps. I did know enough steps (fortunately), but when it came to the last step, I'd actually practiced cross-and-clip-heels, but found I had no energy for that, so did triple-shuffle instead. I won it all the same, but oh, what a killer in terms of stamina!

Most of the time, the Earl. I did it once in class to really slow music (a 6 step) and practically collapsed by the end!
Needless to say, I was in pretty bad shape. :P

I chose the flora, it's the only national on the list that I've competed in, but it requires a lot of good breathing and precision and just feels non stop. I've only ever done a 4 step jig and johnnie but they don't seem very physically demanding, except maybe the heel clicks in the jig. . .

oooooh, I'd say flora! I HATE the flora with a passion!!!! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!! Takes sooooo much energy out of me! Hate it, hate it, hate it. Ok rant over lol!! :)

Also Laddie and Barracks if the piper is slow, man last step of Laddie when slow is a killer!! :)

I'd say hornpipe or earl. If the music is slow, both dances can be very very painful! But if the music is fast, I find the hornpipe less physically exhausting, while the earl still kills me!

Earl of Errol is definitely a thigh burner if the music is too slow and you do all the changes in the last step as leaps. Hornpipe is more tiring though depending on the steps you do, eg. pumping and extended highcuts, especially if it's a 6 step hornpipe!

I think it's either THe Earl of Earl or the Highland Laddie.

I would have to say the Flora. It is my least favourite dance because of all the horrible shuffles! I haven't learned the Earl of Errol yet but it doesn't look hard...:P
