Boom Boom Pow is a good song! it has a good beat. So is Body Language (Jesse McCartney) and Lose Control. My hip hop teacher has really good songs on her iPod and pretty much any song can fit! When we made up our own combos we even used halloween songs! lol! Have fun!

I usually hire younger teachers to teach hip hop because I'm not in "the right age group" to be "hip"

This year, I ended up having more to do with the hip hop class than usual and I actually used music that isn't traditional hip hop music.

We used several Flogging Molly numbers in class and actually did "The Devil's Dance Floor" in recital.

It was great and the kids actually loved it.

It gave a new spin to the hip hop experience and I plan to explore several more "non-hip" musicians this summer.

Good luck

Keep On Dancing!

Most of these are pretty explicit and so would not be appropriate for a kids/teen class, but they are what I like dancing to (23 year old guy).

Busta Rhymes "Truck Volume"
Lil' Boosie and Webbie "Swerve"
Keri Hilson "Pretty Girl Rock Remix" (the Kanye verse only)
Rusko ft. Gucci Mane "I Got Da Groove"
The Trak Addicts "Let it Cook Slow" (Mashup of Jeezy, Wayne and Ludacris)
Mike Posner "Smoke and Drive"
Starting Six "Thirsty"
Baby Bash and E-40 "Go Girl"

I'm working with young kids too. It is a challenge to find appropriate language! A lot of the songs have "clean" versions, but even that isn't always a good bet. For this class I'm using "Evacuate the Dancefloor", "Dynamite", "Ice Cream Paint Job", "Handclap", "Fuego", "Calabria" - some of the songs are more pop than hip hop, but I think kids in that age range want to dance to the songs they know.

Guys, you should also listen to Shake That Ass for me by Eminem feat Nate Dog. It's really a great song! You can't help but dancing when you listen to it!
