Ouch, I hate doing center splits because they put bad pressure on your knees if hey face foward. Try rotating your legs so knees are to the ceiling. I've had my center, right and left splits since I was 4, what about you guys.

do you have any other tips for middle splits?
i can do right and left, but my hips are very tight when it comes to middle.
help?

Hi! I'm new here and this is my first post. I am an adult beginner stretcher (I am 36 now) and I am also overweight. I share this with you because I am trying to also lose weight and gain my flexibility back. (I used to take dance class from the ages of 4 till 17 and then I haven't kept up with my stretches over the years, so I am starting all over again from scratch.) I have been looking at this website for a while now before joining. Thank you so much for all of your knowledge and encouragement everyone.

For the first time in 19 years, I have started stretching again and the other night, I used the repeat method 6 times on each leg and I was able to get all the way down in my forward splits on each leg. My hips are still extensively stiff when I try to move from forward splits into straddle splits. I am also using the Contortionists Handbook as a guide as well for stretching.

But thank you so much for posting this information (and the link to the visuals for these stretches). It really does help if you have an example of what your stretch should look like.

I love it here and thank you again for allowing me to post here. Keep up the great work everyone!

OMG! maybe I can finally get back into my splits after three years... hopefully.

then again, i've only been fully in my splits once, and was too sore to get back into them ever again *tear*

Thanks from me as well! I just started these stretches today and hopefully this will help me become more flexbile and closer the splits!

thanks! i think this is pretty important. because i know a girl in my dance class who was in gymnastics and she plopped down into a right split because she thought she could handle it and ended up pulling a muscle and it has been two years and the right split is impossible for her.

thank you so much. im the captain of a drill team and i still have 2 girls who cant hit their splits. this will help greatly at practice.

This is why I joined. I am not very flexible but i would very much like to change that. Martial artist could learn alot from dancers.

I got it, I got it! I can now do left and right splits! I'm the only one in my class that can! Now to get center...
