Splits Training

Oh My Gosh!!!!! Thankyou soo much you are actually a life saver I LUV YOU!!!! Ok so thats a bit Please tell me is it possible to get into the splits in two weeks with ABSOLUTELY no previous training or stretching? If not, how long will it take? PLEASE reply? This is so important right now! Do you need to warm up before hand? Do you need to do it morning and night? Im getting so excited now i really want to stretch! And i guess pain is just one of those things you have to grit your teeth and get over as a ballet dancer aye? Well thanks again, you probably get this alot but you don't know how much this means to me!!! Luv F!oNa XoX :D

okay i see i have to answer sum questions here for my post!heehee! if u have ur hips not squared in time it will end up hurting more, mine arent as squared as they sould be-they're not perfect or w/e- but their in a comfortable angle (still working on them though!!!) i'd say slide down into the splits between 2 chairs and use them as supporters and keep ur hips square!!! U WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO DOWN AS FAR AS U COULD! i reapeat U WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO DOWN AS FAR AS U COULD doin it regurlar or w/e!!! but thats OKAY!!! it will really help ur regular splits and make u go down in those better!!! I PROMISE! ummmm i got my splits in like a week stretching EVERY DAY no matter now much it hurt (but not so much as to rip anything) lol thats a BIG no- no! cuz if u rip sumthing then its like taking 5 steps bak! and its quite painful! (i should know! i've ripped my butt muscle once, yes u can rip that muscle!!! lol and it hurt like u know wut!!! owie! not pleasent! hehe) umm... i'd just say stretch every other day MAJOR stretching and on the days ur not stretching hard, just do sum lite stretching, it makes a big difference, plus, i've been learning sum ballet stretches and it's really helping me too!!! umm... i'll post sum more stretches this weekend so keep a look out for my posts! l8r! byez!

This was really helpful advice, but one part is not true. If you are able to perform splits it DOES help to sit in them. After sittting in them for long enough it will become possible for hyperextension and all that good stuff

Thanks a lot for the tips, I'm about 3 inches off my forward splits (never been able to do them yet) hopefully I'll get those last inches with all this!

thanx 4 the brill post. this has helped me too improve my flexibility as well as my splits! So many people ask about spilts so thankfully and finally we have someone to ask!!

Squared Hips

It matters a lot in ballet to have sqared hips but don't worry its not too hard to get used to. Just push down in the higher hip, especially with battements, and it will be even with the other hip. Your leg won't be as high for a while, but practicing with your hip like that will make it go higher.

If you still have a hard time there's these little belt things-they're like $5 and you wear them on your hips to see if they're aligned.

Great post - I'm getting up earlier to do some extra stretching and I'm going to ensure I stretch at least once a day!

great stretches! i have my splits but my hips are so not square =(. i can see my other bum in the mirror when i do splits, is that ok? how square can hips possibly go when ur doing front splits? thanx!!
