Great Post! I have done Pilates once or twice before but I thought I was just wasting my time but now that I know I'm not I am going to start doing it again.

Thanks for the great post! I've been looking for information on pilates for awhile now. Now you've got me all interested in it and motivated to start! ;)
I'm just about to start dancing again after being off due to injury and I'm hoping that pilates might be able to help me re-build the muscle that I lost from not dancing since I can't start dancing full-out.
Thanks again!!

I just started it this summer, as an avid and busy dancer, all types, it has improved my upper body strength and I feel great after doing it! Love it

great entry. i live by pilates. if i don't do them daily i feel like i'm missing something. they're incredible. a lot of people think pilates are so low-impact that they won't work, but the results come so quickly. i've never gotten results that quickly from running or taebo or going to the gym.

Pilates is GREAT! I only started doing Pilates 2 and a half years ago, after a recommendation from one of my old "ballet buddies" who now teaches Pilates. I went to a summer series of classes to keep in trim while ballet was off for summer, and from the start, I LOVED IT!!!! And every day, I do 20 minutes of Pilates before I get ready for work, and it charges me up for the day ahead! Fantastic!

I took pilates class just once a week last year, and all my dance teachers noticed and complimented me on my improvement. I since have stopped the class (scheduling conflict) but am going to start again soon. I really improved a lot, with my flexibility, strength, and abs!!! ;)

A lot of you mentioned that you do Pilates regularly. Do you take classes at a studio or a gym? Or do you do follow tapes at home? I would love to try and take a private class using the 'reformer' but I don't know where to go (I live outside of Boston). I have one tape but it does not get me very motivated and I do not feel like it is much of a workout. Any recommendations?

If you live in the Boston area you should be able to find a great pilates studio no problem. I'd start by looking in the phone book and making some calls. Find out if and where their instructors are certified and which pieces of equipment they use.

hey, could someone tell me some stretches? my dad goes to therapy and got the big rubbery band things (the "o" and the "8") i decided to take advantage of it and mess with them, but i couldnt find any stretch it would help me with. all i kept getting was my hair wrapped and stuck in the rubber (putting it behind my head). i even watched the free dvd it came with. well i fast forwarded thru it scanning, because honestly it was boring.. i didn't see any stretches to gain flexibility, just things to focus and strenthening muscles. =[ ideas please?
Thanks

Thanks...that makes me even more want to take it. Sounds like I should take it before jumping into my dance class.
