Has anyone bought the NYC ballet workout videos? I was wondering what they were like.
I will have to get out my Pilates DVDs and try to work at them. Floor work is hard for me because of my knees, but I can try. After all, it will help me strengthen which is what I need so much.
Thank you so much for posting this beautiful information. Have a safe and blessed rest of the week.
Sincerely,

I've been doing pilates for about a year now, and it's really helped me with my core strength. Well done for posting this! I'd give you karma, but I can't do so yet, unfortunately. Good on you anyway

I had never done pilates before and am skeptical of learning from exercise dvds, but i thought that this Pilates for Beginners dvd was really great. I bought it here
thinsimple.com . . .
only cost $7 too.

I totally agree! Pilates is awesome!
I've got a couple of windsor pilates DVDs and they are so good - they really have helped me with my core strength which is essential for dancers!
If you can, go to a pilates studio because they have proper equipment you can use to really sculpt your body. I would definitely recommend Windsor Pilates!
So many professional dancers say that pilates has helped them tremendously, so if it's good enough for the pros, it's DEFINITELY good enough for us!

This is a really great post I wonder if you know is there an age limit as to when young people can start pilates. I would love my daughter to go to improve her core strength and posture

^ How old is your daughter?
I would not recommend it for children younger then 10. Simply because it takes time for children to develop the mind/body connection and muscular awareness necessary for certain exercises.
Pilates is a very focused work, it requires a strong connection and awareness to your body...this is also something that you learn and improve through training as well.
Each child is different though and will mature at different rates. (I'll PM you as well in case you don't see this reply)

You are so right. I have been doing pilates for a couple of months now, to help with my Ballet. Already I have found ir helpful. My posture has improved and this in turn has improved my balance in my Ballet. Every dancer should try it.

Pilates on the reformer is the best!!! It is sooo much fun and its challenging.
I do also enjoy mat classes, but reformer classes are my favorite. When we use the "magic circle" in class i also really like that too.

Awesome post! I would love to try it and have been looking around town( Anchorage, AK) to see who offers it. But everyone who does wants me to pay them like $500 a session and...no. I refuse. So does anyone have any suggestions for a good pilates video or any books??

I totally agree that abs are made in the kitchen (sort of). If your calorie intake is higher than your out put (you're using less calories than you're eating) you will store fat. You can have the strongest abdominal muscles in the world but still have a layer of fat on your stomach.
