The rumors of our death are greatly exaggerated. :D It appears the dunce.net deal has fallen through, and to our delight, we're stuck at being dance.net for the foreseeable future. (However, I will be prominently posting any "dunce" photos that make it to our mailbox.) To celebrate, there's now a new avatar/bio photo feature.

OK, technically, this was introduced yesterday, but not everybody knows about it seeing how controversy has buried this story in the nether regions of Tell dance.net:

You can now upload a photo/picture which will be used in your bio. A small 100x100 (max dimension in pixels) version is generated for use as your "avatar" in the forums.

To use this feature, you must have posted at least 50 comments. (Sorry, newbies, this is needed to guard against abuse and is an incentive for your continued participation. :))

To upload your photo or image, make sure you're signed in, and then click on your profile. You'll see a new link to upload new photo/avatar.

Note that you don't have to use a photo of yourself if you're concerned about privacy or whatever. You can always use a cartoon, animal, pointe shoes, tutu, etc.

Also know that adding or changing your avatar takes up to 24 hours to propagate to all your old messages. New messages will immediately use your new avatar. You can assume that whatever photo displays in your profile will be updated to all your old messages before long.

lovingdance, you might try Paintshop Pro. It has a 30-day free trial and you can download it from: jasc.com. It's similar to Photoshop, but much less expensive. I believe it has the ability to save images as GIF or JPG.

You must make 50 comments that add to the site (as opposed to being one or two word comments for the sake of commenting, known as "star farming")
After that you will be able to add an avatar.
