Dancing_Bianca, Bianca, no. 13
Hi! I'm Bianca, I'm 17 and I come from Holland. I love ballet & playing the piano! I spend a lot of time on the computer/internet too and I like doing creative things, such as designing, sewing clothes, choreographing, painting, writing stories etc. One year of school left for me, I hope I can go to the conservatory for piano next year and become a piano teacher.
I joined dance.net and the VIS over 2 years ago. I've been in a lot of virtual performances. I won't bore you with a whole list of them I've (co)directed and choreographed a few too, and I've also done publicity for quite some shows. I'm co-director of the Pointe by Pointe company, we've had a little break the last few months, but I'm trying really hard to contact the other co-director so we can start another performance! I teach and take classes in the ballet department, and I've recently started taking classes in the tap department too! I'm a member of Attitude dorm! I'm the events coördinator and I've been dorm secretary in the past. I'm also a member of Delta Pi Omega, Dance Net Ballet Theatre and the VIS Dance Team!
Volunteer work... I must admit that I don't have a really long list on that I assist ballet classes at my studio and I write articles for a magazine on classical music for teenagers... I run errands for people sometimes or give advice on things as decorating their homes, choosing the right pointe shoes, choosing the right dance studio etc... I've helped out on a lot of my studio's ballet performances too by sewing/designing costumes and doing make-up, but that was more because they needed people and I thought it was fun to do I'm always willing to help when people turn to me for it though! | re: Volunteer Work, VIS Activities, and Bio. en>fr fr>en By DancePrincess827 Comments: 6352, member since Mon Mar 10, 2003On Sun Jul 18, 2004 05:19 PM

Bio
My name is Noelle and I have been part of dance.net for well over a year and part of VIS for about a year now. Dance.net has been a wonderful experience for me. It has given me insight to dancers and to many other things as well, especially due to the Debates and Philosophy forums.
I live in California and am such a California girl. I love swimming, going to the beach, shopping, the movies, and most of all-just hanging out with the people I love. My friends and family mean the world to me. Without them, I would not have had the strength to pull through some of my toughest moments.
I now work for Disney in Entertainment and absolutely love my job. I love being around children and putting smiles on their faces. I especially love to meet the children who come to Disneyland on a Make-A-Wish wish and I know I am making their wish come true. To see these kids smile is a feeling I cannot explain. But it's not only children that I love to make smile...adults are just as great. Making an adult laugh from joy for their magical experience at Disneyland gives me such great satisfaction. I definitely love people, and love to entertain them, which is why my job is the best job in the world for me.
In the future, I plan to become an elementary school teacher. I want to teach the first grade and possibly teach Junior High math. Math is my absolute favorite subject, and I want to make everyone else love it just as much as I do.
I know things will work out for me in the future because I am determined to succeed. With hard work and determination, I know that all things are possible. | re: Volunteer Work, VIS Activities, and Bio. en>fr fr>en By dancerbabe588 Comments: 344, member since Sun Mar 03, 2002On Sun Jul 18, 2004 06:05 PM

BIO:
Wow, I had to go all out on this! Lol, sorry that I missed this post, so I went ahead and sent it to you by PM, Ms. Director!
Ok, now, on with the bio.
I like to be busy with a lot of activities as you can all see, I'm a very artsy person, and I like to socialize and dance. Dancing is my favorite hobby, aside from school. At school I enjoy being on the dance team and being able to help the younger cheerleaders, its a lot of fun being able to help everyone, as it makes me feel happy. I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you in the VIS Pageant, and making new friends! | re: Volunteer Work, VIS Activities, and Bio. en>fr fr>en By DanceAngel120 Comments: 5692, member since Wed Mar 13, 2002On Mon Jul 19, 2004 05:00 PM

Volunteer Work
Much of my volunteer work is done in or through my school. I have been involved in my school's Peer Mediation/Leadership program since it was started two years ago, and I plan on continuing for all four years of high school. In this program, the older kids in the school who chose to be part of this program give up a few lunch hours a month (as many as you'd like) and go eat/play with the younger kids in the school. Also in this program, when two kids form the school are in a fight, they are sent to two mediators to help them. Each mediator/educator also goes into one fourth and one fifth grade class a year to give some sort of lesson. I also have given up many lunch periods/time after school to organize events for my school, such as writing celebrations, dances, etc. I was involved in my school's student council this year, as well as the saftey patrol program where some of the 8th graders go to school 5-10 mintues early and stay a little bit later to make sure that everything's ok while kids are coming or going to the school. There are times when I will babysit my friend's younger brother for free as well. And my dance team did two volunteerwork shows this year, one at a senior citizen center, the other at a local fair.
[VIS Activities]
As I have been in VIS since it was first started about 3 years ago, I cannot remember all of the activities I've done here, so I will just name some things. I was Eva in Center Stage. I was Auroura in Sleeping Beauty. I was Doody in Grease. I was one of the Four Swans in VIS's first production of Swan Lake. I was in a ballet featuring different emotions (it never really had a title). I was in a production of 42nd Street, but as so many people dropped out, the show had to be cancelled. I have been involved with organizing or helping to organize many different events and parties for the school. I am the head of the Academic Department (although I couldn't really do my job, because I didn't have any cooperation from everyone else). I am also the Overseer of the Dorms. I have also helped do costumes for a few shows. This is just a very small part of a very long list of things that I've done in VIS over the past three years.
[Bio]
My name is Jody and I am 14 years old. I live in the US, very close to the beach (about 5-10 minutes away), and going to the beach with my friends is one of my hobbies during the summer. I have been dancing since I was 2 1/2 years old. I do many types of dance wich include ballet, pointe, hiphop, jazz, lyrical, tap, and character. I am a very artsy person. I dance between 10 and 13 hours a week during the school year, and I enjoy doing things like drawing, painting, fashion design, making things (such as clothing), and my newest hobby, designing and hand making my own handbags. In addition to all of that, I love to sing and act, and I preform whenever I have the chance to. This September I will begin my freshman year of high school with all honors courses. I in my spare time, I like to do many different things such as hang out with my friends, go out to the mall or the beach with my friends, go to a good party, or just stay at home and curl up with a good book. I also love to write, and for a possible future career, I've love to be a fashion magazine writer/editor or a dance teacher. | re: Volunteer Work, VIS Activities, and Bio. en>fr fr>en By Ballerina_Jess Comments: 1220, member since Fri Sep 12, 2003On Fri Jul 23, 2004 04:56 AM

My volunteer work consists of helping out in a retirement home where i entertained the men and women by playing the piano and playing games with them. We baked cakes and got dressed up for Melbourne Cup Day (big australian horse race), It was heaps of fun!!! I am also the first to help out in various school functions acting as a waitress and all round helper. I also have a habit of 'helping out' at younger year levels dance's just so i get to go and dance a little. I have also helped out by teaching a few dance classes every now and again.
In the VIS I have helped out in many productions such as the Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz. I am also in the middle of getting Plie I back into activity. I've been a member of pointe by pointe and delta pi omega and i am very passionate about my dorm and sorority.
I'm jess and i'm 17, I'm from Adelaide, Australia and i love to dance. I have since i was 3 and i can't imagine my life dance-less. I also love to play tennis and hanging out with my friends and above most of all i love relaxing and surfing dance.net. I do anything creative, acting, singing, painting, designing etc. I'm in my final year of school and next year i want to go to uni and study law or commerce.
There is other stuff but i'm tired and my favourtie person just got evicted from Big Brother... See ya! | re: Volunteer Work, VIS Activities, and Bio. en>fr fr>en By DancingMeggs Comments: 242, member since Thu Apr 15, 2004On Fri Jul 23, 2004 01:00 PM

Real life volunteer work:-----------------------
Tutoring underpriviliged children: I've done this for two years now, but at different organisations. In the first year, I volunteered at a primary school where less academically-inclined students came from families which couldn't afford extra tuition to facilitate their child's learning needs. These children took a while to grasp new concepts, so they'd stay back one afternoon a week and I'd help them with their work and teach them slowly.
In the second year, I volunteered at a family service centre and tutored children who came from broken families. They'd stay at the family service centre in the afternoons because there wasn't anyone at home to look after them. I'd just help them with topics they were weak in and help them prepare for their examinations.
Coastal clean-up: I participated in a coastal cleanup activity which involved picking up litter on the beach to keep it clean and tidy, not strewn with plastic bags and styrofoam boxes and other non-biodegradable things that were bad for the environment.
Weeding: Did this at a park as part of a school activity to allow plants and trees to grow better without being obstructed by weeds which competed with them for minerals in the soil and water etc.
Cleaning daycare centre: Window-wiping, floor sweeping etc. It's not an ordinary daycare centre, but one run by monks for "problem" children. They run everything on donations they receive and their own manual labour, so they could always use the extra help even with seemingly menial tasks like cleaning and mopping.
VIS activities-----------------------
Attitude Dorm: I've been a proud member of ATTITUDE DORM since I joined VIS about 2 years ago. I've also had the opportunity to serve as Dorm President, which was a wonderful experience for me.
Dorm productions: I've been in Attitude Dorm's production of The Nutcracker and The Little Mermaid, and took on backstage and production roles as well as dancing roles for both of them. They were really fun to do and I learnt a lot of new things about directing and producing a full-length production.
Music department teacher: I used to teach Singing in the Music Department, but had to stop after a while because of other committments in real life. It was a great experience teaching, though, because I'd never taught before and it was really encouraging to see my students actually improving and giving me positive feedback. I was glad to have the chance to pass what I learnt on to other people, even if it was only for a short time.
Bio-----------------------
Hi, I'm Raindancer . I don't like to say my real name on Dance.net (all I can say is that it's fairly unique, which is why I'd rather keep it a secret because I don't want to make it too easy for people to find me, hehe), but I'd be happy if you just called me Raindancer (rain for short's fine with me too!).
I've been a member of Dance.net since June 2002 and a member of the VIS for almost as long. In real life, I take one ballet class a week (I wish it were more, but my schedule doesn't allow it). I've been dancing ballet for over ten years now . I used to take tap and jazz as well, but had to stop because of time constraints as well.
There's plenty more I could say but as this is supposed to be a short bio I won't make you guys read my entire life history ![:] :]](http://dancenet.s3.amazonaws.com/images/blue/emoticons/joy.gif) . Just ask if you want to know anything else.
I'm really happy to be a part of this Miss VIS Paegant and I wish everyone all the best! Regardless of the outcome, I truly believe that we're all winners and everyone has something unique and special to contribute to the VIS. | ReplySendWatch
