Hey Stephanie, you are new here no silly questions!
A sticky means that the thread will remain at the top of the page so people can continue to refer to the post... It helps cut down on people always posting the same things.

We've got the beat is a common used song.
Also does anyone know who sings this song, I am not sure what it is called but I know some of the lyrics. I need love, to ease my mind, I need time, time....
I would like to do this song for our christmas recital.

Abby,
Are you looking for old rock songs or something new?
And do you want something very fast or moderate?
You could do something to Rock this town...by The stray cats. There is several new rock song I've listed above. You can go to walmart.com and hear snippets of them.
Hope this helps.

Here are some older rock songs that I've used with my students. Most of these are pretty fast!

Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar
Promises in the Dark - Pat Benatar
Summer Song - Joe Satriani (instrumental guitar, no vocals)
Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson (another guitar piece)
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Rocking the Paradise - Styx
Dreams - Van Halen

Promises in the Dark and Rocking the Paradise both have slow parts at the very beginning. Don't Stop Me Now might too but I can't remember for sure. My students usually did short lyrical dances, or sometimes ribbon, during the slow portions. I thought the slow beginnings made a nice contrast to the speed of rest of the song.

If I can think of any more I'll post them!

"Situation" by Yaz has a lot of promise. If I could choreograph a routine I'd be rockin' out.

When I first started coaching (I work with our youngest group/beginners) we did a Lucky Star Theme where we mixed "Lucky Star" by Madonna with "Baby I'm a Star" by Prince. It was a really successful routine for us...and the girls really got into "Baby I'm a Star" because it's so upbeat.

We've also used the song "Makin' It." I think the singer was named David Noughton or something like that. I had never heard the song before we did it (the head coach picked it out), but we had a really good time with the routine, and we went undefeated that season!

Last year we did a Rock & Roll theme where we mixed "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me" by Billy Joel and "I Love Rock & Roll" by Joan Jett. It was a good mix of different tempos.

Other songs that I've twirled to or seen teams twirl to:
Knock on Wood - I'm not sure of the artist...Amy something???
Fame - Irene Cara
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper (apparently a popular choice, lol)
Ecstasy - Rusted Root
Instrumental music from A Nightmare Before Christmas
Jackson 5 Medley
Gloria Estefan Medley
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Music from the movie Newsies
So Close to the Fire - from the movie Stayin' Alive (NOT Saturday Night Fever)
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Material Girl - Madonna
Pressure - Billy Joel
Studio 54 Medley (there's actually a pre-made mix on the soundtrack)
Diggin' in the Dirt - Peter Gabriel (if you're looking for something dark)

There's been so many more...these are some of the more memorable ones
