When I first started coaching (I work with our youngest group/beginners) we did a Lucky Star Theme where we mixed "Lucky Star" by Madonna with "Baby I'm a Star" by Prince. It was a really successful routine for us...and the girls really got into "Baby I'm a Star" because it's so upbeat.

We've also used the song "Makin' It." I think the singer was named David Noughton or something like that. I had never heard the song before we did it (the head coach picked it out), but we had a really good time with the routine, and we went undefeated that season!

Last year we did a Rock & Roll theme where we mixed "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me" by Billy Joel and "I Love Rock & Roll" by Joan Jett. It was a good mix of different tempos.

Other songs that I've twirled to or seen teams twirl to:
Knock on Wood - I'm not sure of the artist...Amy something???
Fame - Irene Cara
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper (apparently a popular choice, lol)
Ecstasy - Rusted Root
Instrumental music from A Nightmare Before Christmas
Jackson 5 Medley
Gloria Estefan Medley
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Music from the movie Newsies
So Close to the Fire - from the movie Stayin' Alive (NOT Saturday Night Fever)
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Material Girl - Madonna
Pressure - Billy Joel
Studio 54 Medley (there's actually a pre-made mix on the soundtrack)
Diggin' in the Dirt - Peter Gabriel (if you're looking for something dark)

There's been so many more...these are some of the more memorable ones

It was fast...especially for beginners. But, it was a good challenge for them and they did really well with it.

Good luck with your routine!!! :)

I twirled to Baby I'm a star for parade corp.... That was a fun routine to do, b/c Prince's screams and stuff were funny.... Another year we twirled to Vibeology.... That was another fun song for parade corp...... Then for the Philadelphia July 4th parade we twirled to Philadelphia Freedom, that was a rather slow song, but the routine had to be flashy and showy since we were on ABC..... For one of my try-out songs I had Stomp to My beat, Jam... Those were last year, this year I'm using country songs- T-R-O-U-B-L-E and this other song I'm not sure what its called is for my feature try-out..

Do you all have any good country songs? I have some, but I just want to see what kind you all have. It can be moderately fast to fast.

Shania Twain has some good songs to twirl to. Recently I've used "Honey I'm home" and "Up". I've seen come cute routines choregraphed to "Man, I feel Like a Woman" also.

"Footloose" is always a classic. One time i twirled knives and fire to "Let the Bodies Hit The Floor" by Drowning Pool. It sounds kind of crazy, but it was really cool. The very first song i ever twirled to at contest was "Walking on Sunshine"

There is a free CD from music theater international in new york, they license musical shows, they have a free CD of music for kids singing things from aladin and jungle book and cinderella. there are several things that could be cut together for great show or group routines for little kids. Being a guy I cant twirl to things from Cinderella but there is a slow version of a dream is a wish your heart makes that the right kid could bring the house down and tears to everyones eyes all at the same time dressed in rags.

for really slow stuff i like Dead Can Dance's Music.. esp. Spirit Dance. or even stuff by The Herb!

For faster stuff i enjoy pretty much anything by Spectral, or even some mushroom mafia stuff. Goa trance is also a great genre for any spinning or twirling routines.
