The official march music for strut is just a group of John Phillip Sousa stuff that repeats (way too many times!!!). The name of the cd is very original- Twirling Athlete!!!! If you are going to Nationals this year, it is for sale there or you can buy it online at ABC's website.

This year my duet partner and I twirled to hush hush by the pussycat dolls it looks really cute but very fast! School crowds love newer songs but I'm not sure about judges...

Apologies if these have been mentioned already, but the two I'm currently digging are 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey and 'Jam' by the legend Michael Jackson.

Also I'd imagine you could do a good slow solo or duet to 'Eternal Flame' by the Bangles, but I'm not technically proficient enough yet to attempt that!

Does anyone know of any slow songs that would be good for show twirl?

I am in the process of creating a fire baton routine for a group I coach with and would LOVE some help coming up with a suitable song. They are all high school age twirlers. I am looking for something that is a moderate tempo as this will be the first fire routine for some of them. It does not have to do with fire or have lyrics. I am open to strong, dramatic sounding songs as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

Pirates of the Carribean is pretty dramatic

For those of you interested in twirling music, you may wanna check this out. In gymnastics, we buy "sample music" which is a CD with about 100 sample songs & mixes to listen to. If you decide to use any of them, you can then purchase them. They are themed, ex: 50's, 60's, Rock n Roll, Country, Showtunes, etc.
Its a great way to listen to music before you buy it, and also
a good way to get some ideas.

But they always played the Sousa mix from a tape called MUSIC FOR TWIRLING during the strut competition at AYOP. Makes little difference, but if there's a struggle with timing, it doesn't hurt to practice to both mixes.

Someone just gave me a CD that has great twirling music.
It's called "Inspiration/Movies" Check it out!

Most major record labels produce what's called "Sample CD's" that they use to promote their artists to radio stations. AND THEY ARE FREE! You just need to contact the labels, and they will mail them to you. A great way to hear music before it comes out!

I use a great site called OnTheradio.net It lists/ranks songs by category, and allows you to sample the song. It also will link you to the songs iTunes page, should you decide to purchase. I love their list of "Top 100 Dance Songs." My students also use it to get ideas for themes & music. It's also updated bi-weekly!
