Hello, I have just turned 19 and I am going to be teaching a creative movement class for tots. I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers or helpful tips or anything you may think would help me.
Thank you,

Patience, patience, and more patience. Not just with your students either, you need to be patient with the parents as well, especially for a young creative movement class. Many of the parents will be new and won't know how things work at your studio (Can they watch? Do they stay in the waiting room? etc) Be prepared to answer all these kinds of questions. I always give my parents a quick overview of the way things work. Make sure you have lesson plans, even for a young class. Know in advance what you will be teaching and doing for every little bit of class - plan extra in case the class doesn't seem receptive to a certain idea you can quickly change. Have your music planned out as well so you don't lose control of your class while searching for music. Think ahead of everything you can think of that could possibly happen and think of how to handle it. My biggest problem when I started teaching a long time ago was I didn't plan for the clingy, crying child holding on to her mother's leg. I didn't know what to do back then. I just read a bit of advice on this and actually used it all last week of classes. Tell the child "Okay it's time for you to "push" mommy out the door and find her a seat in the waiting room." It worked wonders for me last week - not one crier and I thought I had tried every trick in the book for the last 13 years. First, of all it puts the child in control and relaxes the mother as well so she doesn't spend the next 1/2 hour trying to peek into your class. I hope some of these ideas help you - they are the things I feel are most important. goodluck and don't forget to have fun! |

i think the first most important thing should be your real passion for what you are doing and afterwards you need patience and perseverance to arrive at an overwhelming success in what you are doing.... teaching |
