after reading this sticky ive now decided not to go ahead with making a costume for my daughter haha im deffinatly not confident enough although i think ill give a try at just buying a simple costume and adding to it myself!

this has probably been answered but i cant find it..does anyone know how to make those bomb balls? :S if thats what they are called!

also my daughters recent costume had bikini clips for the ankle bands and head piece is there anything else that could be used instead?

thank you, samantha

Hi Summersmummie

The balls i think your on about are polostyrene balls covered in material then stoned
The bikini clips are available from boyes at a very reasonable price or can be bought off dance fabric suppliers
As alternatives you can use press studs or velcro

Hope this helps and good luck with making the outfit xx

thank you lou_n_kitten, think you've got what i ment..are they easy to cover in fabric? seems abit fiddly to me! can you also get them from boyes? havent been in our boyes for years

velcro, hmmm thought that might of come undone but worth a try i suppose, i do like the idea of a press stud though! i just thought that the bikini clip seemed abit big n slightly over powering for such a small delicate item!
thanks, samantha

Hi Summersmummie

Yes they are easy to cover! all you do is cut a circle out of the fabric and run a stitch around the edge and pull it tight with the Ball inside. the fabric will pull tight around it if you cut the fabric to the right size. You can get verious sizes from boyes
Also in Boyes if you look in the department where they sell buttons in tubes they also sell bikini clips loose. They come in three sizes and the small one is fine for straps etc

Hope this helps

Hi All
does anybody know where you get the colourful crinoline from used on some of the costumes I would prefer to use this than normal netting as it permanantly stays stiff.
Just need few websites please
Thanks Jennie

I use bendy folder covers for shoulder pads as they are flexible and stay stiff once you have the fabric covering them and they dont droop.
For sewing on the ostrich feathers you should stretch the fabric as you attach the feathers then they will stretch with the costume instead of it being stiff
Hope that helps on some questions

Hi Terri, any kind of fringing from Crystal clover or DSI would be suitable to use. They normally deliver pretty quick too.
Good luck.

Hi you can buy them in packs of 1 gross also (144). So maybe buy a couple of packs of each size. Nevtex sell smaller packs in sizes ss12, ss16, ss20, ss30, ss40.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I dont know why I didnt think about buying them seperately, I think sometimes you just need someone to say it and it makes sense!

Thanks again
