Hi....

Well, I did it ... I made her starter cozzie. So thought I would let you see how it turned out. First cozzie have ever made . She danced in it for the first time today and although she didn't get any trophies, she did say it felt good.

On my part , others said they liked it, so now I am planning the next one.

hi there
I decided the other day after listening to my daughter go on and on about needing a new slow costume to make her 1 myself. I tried every dress making shop local for lycra and couldn't get any. I then went on ebay and got 5 metres of black lycra for just £10.(then £7 p &p). Has anyone else tried ebay? So now my daughter thinks i can run up a costume in 2 weeks. She's heading for a disappointment. Haha.

Thanx for all the advice.

Costume looks great! Can't believe it's a first attempt. I've only just found this website and I feel like I've struck gold with all this advice! My daughter's just done her first comp and I managed to make a simple beginners top but I just made it up as I went along - it looked okay but now I've found so much advice I can't wait to do it properly next time. Thanks to everyone that's shared their tips as I wouldn't have known who to ask otherwise.

Edited by blonde_redhead1 (178101) on 2007-10-03 12:03:21 i cant spell!!!
heres my first proper cossie after a couple of begginers bits. Its my little ones slow cossie, all she wanted was a pink fluffy bum!
shes got hot pants under a little tutu and then stones with ab 20 and 30 in hearts and bits and bobs all over.
I made her a little hand/arm thingy (not technical!) and a couple more bands then brought the hearts theme onto her leg. Madam wanted a tiara so we just put a ctystal heart onto the top to match the stones on cossie and a bit of the feathers.

Hi
This is my first attempt at a starter cossie.
Megan wore it at Cayton Bay and got lots of lovely comments.
I felt really proud watching her dance in it.
Some of your costumes are fantastic - keep up the good work mums.

hi you are all getting so clever i have now made over 100 suits this is my latest ,its not untill you make them yourself that you understand why the designers charge what they do as its not just buying everything to make the suit but its the hours of hard work that goes into it luv juliexx

this is Andis mom on her name cos I just wanted to show the pairs outfits I have made. These are the first costumes I have made that have actually looked okay on the dance floor for my daughter and her partner. They wore them for the first time at Pontins and had lots of compliments I now know why cossies cost so much cos of the time and effort in them! Suex

just had to say I have read all 9 pages lol and have picked some very good tips I have just started making my daughter a new beginner outfit and have just spent the last 2 nights mastering my machine as I got it for my birthday last week lol 27 now anyway I have now drawn around her old cat suit but have added another centimeter all the way round as it was getting to tight and have now sewn two legs and joined in the middle with the back piece to sew and to make it into a halter neck hopefully I will get better ready for when she will eventually move into starters lol thought I would just share this as I feel very proud of myself lol lol

My daughter recently started dancing and wants to start comps in about March so I decided to look at a few designer sites to buy her first slow costume for christmas and was shocked at how much they charge and have decided to make her a costume myself. So far I have bout 13 metres of fabric in total from ebay to make her 2 costumes and it has only cost me about £45. I've also bought some great decorations from streamers that are very well priced. Another great place to go is BOYES. They are really cheap and you can get so many great little piece in the bargain bins, so if you live near a BOYES store and you're making your childs costume I suggest you take a look.

I have absolutely no sewing skills either but it's amazing what you can do. It took me ages to make Ells first ballroom dress and so many things went wrong along the way but it turned out really well in the end and saved me so much money! I have big clumsy fingers and can't cut in a straight line but if you're creative enough you can come up with ways to cover up mistakes - check out plaits on this dress and stoned motifs (all hiding mistakes and not in the origianl plan!)
It's worth giving it a go. I've since made a RnR outfit and latin dress and I'm just starting her freestyle outfit now!!!
