I heard a rumor that the Allen High School drill team (a northern suburb of Dallas) has been performing in their traditional field uniforms this year - but without tights. What is up with that? Is this some new trend? What do you think?

I'm not sure what I think, other than to say that some pictures I saw on their website (www.allenescadrille.org) look a little strange because for years Texas drill teams have worn tights.

It should be noted that the Allen team is a little different from most drill teams in Texas because they perform with their band in the band UIL halftime show.

OK, this has nothing to do with tights but, it's interesting that you say that very few drill teams perform with the band during half-time show in Texas. At every school in my district and I'm pretty sure many other schools in the districts around us, the drill team and the band perform together in the marching show, the drill team just dances at the same time. Yeah, I just wanted to comment on that.

omg! Our JV drill team doesn't wear tights either! What is up with that??? It looks kinda cheap/tacky to me. Not to offend anyone or anything.

But yeah.

xTreMedAncEr79 - What part of the state are you from? I'm from the DFW area. While nearly every drill team performs with their band playing music, I can only think of 2 in DFW that actually perform in their band's UIL show. One is Allen and the other is Duncanville. I know there are a few others around the state, but I didn't know that in some part of the state that was more popular.

First of all, about not wearing tights....I think that would just be tacky, b/c for some gitls that are very white and not tan, I mean, that is just kinda gross to flaunt it like that...I knw that I am very white and I wouldn't want to show it off like that......but whatever floats their boat....

On the issue of performing with the band....our girls dance when the band plays their song, but they don't perform with the band. We did, however, play a team a couple of weeks agothat their "flag core" performed with poms during the band performance, and moved around like flag core does. I can't remember who it was, I am thinking it was Iowa Park....but I don't think they were considered a rill team, but I don't know.....

How can a team look uniform if everyone isn't wearing tights? And they should be the same brand and shade too.

I live in the Houston Area. Fort Bend County to be exact. Our UIL was last night. I'm pretty sure that everyone in our Region (Region 17) had the drill team performing with them.

Rangerettes don't wear tights. I think it can look good either way. However, because high schools don't have the strict weight requirements rettes do, some may really need the tights. Depends on each team I guess.

I'm sure they're drill teams. I'm on the drill team at my school and we dance with the band. I also have friends on the drill teams at other schools and they too perform with their band in their UIL marching show.

I looked at some of the FBISD school websites. You wheren't kidding me. It looks like most of them (all?) are part of their band UIL show. That seems to be to norm in that area. It is very rare in DFW. I'm going to start a new thread!

McKinney North's drill team didn't wear tights when we played them. I would hate to do that.

I started to say there must be someting in the water up their (McKinney is the city just north of Allen), but when I looked at the McKinney ISD website I changed my mind.

It does look like the McKinney North High School North Stars are skipping the tights this year, but the McKinney High School Marquettes are not only wear tights, but they are wearing the shimmery kind in their website photos. Total oposite ends f the tights spectrum.

Then again, maybe their is something in the water :).

Wouldn't that be really gross when you kick? I would never want to be in our uniforms without tights. And on a shallow note, you'd have to shave and tan. I'm too lazy to take care of all that. ;)

haha, it was actually raining when we played Allen so they wore their ponchos the entire game, but when the officers went over there they showed us their different uniforms and were wearing tights.they also did not perform with the band during they're show but rather before the band did their show

Sorry it rained. That has happend a lot on Friday nights during football season the last few years in DFW.

I guess they can't make up their mind. I know I have seen pics on there website this year where they where not wearing tights. The even have "what to wear" link on there website and I looked at it once or twice and it said "No Tights". It might depend on how cold it is.

I'm supprised they didn't perform in the bands show. They have done taht for years.

On a side note, are they still wearing those hidious pedicoats that make the skirts poof?
