Here's the Pointe:
First 8 counts: ash89dancer does: starting upstage left, bourres en arriere with right arm in fifth and left arm in demi-second,using lots of epaulement, for 4 counts. Head is looking into top arm. Then 2 counts of bourrees to turn to face downstage right, arms going into fifth as you bourree. Then pique into third arabesque on count 7, and on count 8 pass through with the left leg to kneel with left leg in front, arms crossed in front of your chest, head looking down to the left.
*Then ash89dancer holds for the next 8 counts, while I do: starting downstage left, 4 counts of bourrees de cote, arms in a diagonal with right arm high. Then on counts 5 and 6, two pique arabesques, the first one a low leg with arms in a low, romantic third arabesque, the second a high leg with arms in third arabesque. On count 7, chasse passe en avant to end with left foot devant and right foot degaged to the back, arms in demi second. On count 8, kneel to end in the same position as ash89dancer, right beside her.
*Third count of 8: On count one, the only thing that happens is that we turn out heads in to look at each other. On count 2, we grab each others hands (so we're like holding hands... lol awww how sweet!) as we stand up to finish with left leg in front, right foot degage. We're still holding hands, with the outside arm in demi second. On counts 3 &, we run, still holding hands, to the downstage right corner. On count 4, we let go of hands, to finish in third arabesque a terre on fondue. Make sure the head is tilted so that it looks as if you're laying it on a pillow. (very romantic style ballet). On counts 5 and 6, we both do two pique de cote in retire, traveling on a diagonal back towards upstage left. Arms go slowly from bras bas to to a diagonal with the left arm high as we pique, head following the left hand up. On counts 7 and 8, we do a soutenue turn to finish facing en face with the arms in fifth. We should be sharing center by now.
*4th count of 8: ash89dancer runs to the downstage right corner, while I run to the downstage left corner, for counts 1 and 2. Arms sweep around from fifth up to first arabesque as we run. On counts 3 and 4, step up to 4th on pointe with the left foot in front (right foot for me, as we're now mirror imaging each other, but I'll say what it is for you), and the arms sort of circle/swoop around from first arabesque to change to arabesque a do (sp?), with the left arm in front. (if you don't call it arabesque a do, it's like first arabesque only you use a ton of epaulement, and really try to show off your back. Head is looking over left arm at the audience. Then on counts 5 and 6, we turn to head straight upstage with our backs to the audience, doing 2 slow gallops on pointe. (not exactly sure what they're called, but it's like a doing a regular gallop only it's on pointe. It's supposed to look really dainty and pretty). Arms are in forth with the left arm high on the first gallop, then they change to the right arm high on the second gallop. Make sure to look at the arm that's in second as you gallop. On counts 7 and 8, run to the upstage right corner (upstage left for me), arms in demi second as you run, then finish facing the diagonal, with your left foot degaged to the front and your arms in third, with the left arm in first, and head turned to the diagonal. (basically, it's your normal prep for a turning combination from the corner, since that's what's coming next)
FROM THERE: (this is the new stuff)
*Everyone does 4 counts of fast chaine turns, arms in first. Me and ash89 dancer are travelling on the diagonal to the opposite downstage corner, and Taylor is coming in from either downstage right or left (doesn't matter to me, whichever is your better turning side), straight into the center.
*On counts 5,6,7,8, Me and ash89dancer just do coupe over, into two sets of bourrees on tournant (so you do 2 turns in total), arms slowing going through bras bas, demi second, all the way up to fifth. While this is happening, Taylor does: chasse passe en avant to right foot degage derriere on croise, arms in fourth with right arm high, on 5,6. Then from there, a full circular port de bras in a deep lunge to finish in fouth on fondue, arms in fourth again, on 7,8.
*Next count of 8: Taylor does: Step up onto pointe in fifth, arms going to fifth, on count And 1. On counts 2,3,4, do run, run, run (NOT gallop!) straight upstage, into a grande jete en tournant, arms going through fifth in the jump to land in second arabesque. On count 5, a quick soutenu turn into fifth, arms in fifth, facing en face. On 6, step forward into a preperation for pirouette (fourth position, both legs plie, arms in third). On 7 and 8, a double or triple pirouette (whichever you want) en dehors with arms in fifth, finishing in fourth on fondue, left foot in front on croise, arms in second arabesque.
*While Taylor is doing that count of 8, Me and ash89dancer do: Chasse en avant to right foot in front en ouvert, arms in third, on counts 1, 2. On count 3, fondue the right leg. On count And A 4, pas de bourree under, arms go to bras bas. On counts 5 And 6, three quick emboites en pointe, arms in demi second, head tilting slightly to the working leg each time. On counts 7,8, chasse en arriere to right foot degage devant en croise, arms go to a *free* second arabesque. (use lots of epaulement, left arm can be a lot more open than a typical second arabesque).
*Next 8 counts: We ALL do together: 4 pique turns, making a big circle, on counts 1,2,3,4. Then, still continuing around the circle, pose into first arabesque on the right leg on 5, then repeat the pose in first arabesque again on the left leg on count 6. On count 7 And, 1 chaine turn, still continuing in the circle. On count 8, chasse onto attitude derriere on pointe, arms in fifth, everyone turns and faces en face for this. At this point, ash89dancer should be in the center of the stage, I should be downstage left-ish, and Taylor should be downstage right-ish. (so we're really in a triangle)
THEN: (this is the ending)
Coupe over (left foot derriere), arms to third with right arm in first, on count &. On counts 1 & 2, pas de bouree pique, arms going to second. Finish in fifth en croise, left foot in front, arms in bras bas. On counts 3 & 4. do 3 emboites, arms in demi second. Glissade under, arms going to third with the right arm in first, on count 5. Glissade over, arms going to third with the left arms in first, on count 6. The glissades are both facing en face. On counts 7 and 8, step out with the left leg, arms in demi second, the place the right foot behind in classical pose.
*Last count of 8: On counts 1 & 2, do 2 classical walks forward facing en face, arms going through first to second. On counts 3 and 4, step out to the right, placing the left foot behind in classical pose, arms in demi second. On counts 5 and 6, a slow reverance, arms stay in demi second. Return to classical pose. On counts 7 and 8, step out with the left foot, arms remain in demi second, then place the foot behind in a degage derriere, arms going to an open second arabesque. (more like a diagonal with the arms than an actual arabesque).
The music will fade away as you finish, and the curtain will come down.

here is my monologue (finally) im sure the production will be great!
Lights Up
Walks in, looks at the mirrors, studies her self, runs down stage left, and throws up.
Down stage, centre
Here we go again, another night of dressing up and pretending to be someone else. I love it though; I am living every little girls dream. It takes sacrifices but I love the rewards.
Takes shoes out of bag, sits down and puts them on.
I’ve grown as a ballerina, I know I have. My life’s ambition used to become Odette, you know, the perfect swan, but I’ve moved on. Now, I want to make an impression on my audience, I want them to love and envy me. Envy, the world’s one true fault.
Everybody is envious of somebody. Me? I want to be like Barbie. She’s so beautiful, the epitome of perfect.
Looks around
I hate these mirrors, they make me look at myself; study myself, this body, this figure.
I hate feeling like this but my profession calls for it. The perfect ballerina is supposed to be 10% under her ideal body weight - that’s anorexia!
It shouldn’t be like this. But can I change it? People just don’t want to see normal people on the stage. Actors, singers, dancers, we’re all the same. We are the puppets - society is the puppeteers. We are commanded to entertain over and over until they are finished with us. And then discarded and sent back into the unforgiving world of anonymity.
Sitting down
I was at home when they called, ‘don’t bother auditioning’ they said, they meant ‘you’re too fat’, I know they did, they always do.
Getting up, turns to front
Too fat?! I’ll show them
To audience- Stretching and Practicing
They tell me I’m not fat, they tell me I’m normal. Normal, I hate that word. What is normal anyway! Everyone is normal! Normality is nothing, it’s pointless! Ha-ha, pointless, get it? My Pointe shoes are normal. Pink European Satin with long pink ribbons. Beautiful aren’t they? (Takes off shoe and throws it) They are not beautiful! They are ugly and painful and completely useless. Ballet is anything but beautiful. Its gift to us is to make the most difficult and painful steps look easy and graceful. None of it is real!!!
Bulimia was a gift I gave myself; it was a means to an end. The end of my body image problems. Ha! Look at me. I’m a textbook case! Pathetic! The more I eat and throw up, the bigger I get. It wasn’t supposed to be like this! But I don’t care anymore! I’ve given up on what they want me to be. I don’t want their white tutu’s and pink slippers; I’m going to go out there and show them what I can do! I am going to show them what it’s like to be me! They will finally love and envy me for my confidence, my ability, my stage presence.
…But I still hate those mirrors.
Lights Down
Lights up

Edited by StageBrat (88259) on 2004-10-30 12:17:29 Mentioned terrible spelling!
Ok, I was going to do a monologue, but I'm going to do a dance instead because the monologue is too melodramatic!
Song: "At the Ballet" from A Chorus Line
Costume :
Bold is dancing, normal is singing. When there is both, I will post a line of singing, then a line of choreo. Things in stars (*like this*) are things to do with emotions, descriptions of poses, etc. I'd like to appologize for the horrendous spelling. I can't spell in French, as my teacher will tell you!
So, without further ado, I'd like to present ... At the Ballet.
*sitting upstage right in a cabaret-esque chair, legs crossed a la moulin rouge, head tilted downwards.*
Daddy always thought that he married beneath him
That's what he said, that's what he said
When he proposed he informed my mother he was probably her very last chance
And though she was 22
Though she was 22
Though she was 22
She married him
straddle out towards audience, crosees legs to other side
Life with my dad wasn't ever a picnic,
More like a come-as-you-are,
When I was five I remember my mother
Dug earrings out of the car
I knew that they weren't hers, but it wasn't
Something you'd wanna discuss
He wasn't warm
Two fast blinks in time to music
Well not to her.
Two fast blinks in time to music
Well, not to us.
gets up from chair and runs center
But everything was beautiful
balance right, balance left
At the ballet
soutenou turn, plie in fifth
Graceful men lift lovely girls in white
pirouette preparation, right pirouette en dedans, ending in 4th, (during music following words, developpe a la seconde)
Yes Everything was beautiful at the ballet, hey!
tombe pas de bourre jete left, jete right, glissade, assemble, sous sus
I was happy, at the ballet
Pique arabesque, balance right, balance left, (during music following words, runs back to chair, puts right leg on chair and looks out to audience
Up a steep and narrow stairway
To the voice like a metronome
Up a steep and narrow stiarway
It wasn't paradise,
It wasn't paradise,
It wasn't paradise, but it was home.
walks forward to downstage right, stands and looks angrily at audience
Mother always said I'd be very attractive
When I grew up, when I grew up.
Different she said, with a special somthing and a very very personal flair
And though I was 8 or 9
Though I was 8 or 9
Though I was 8 or 9
I hated her!
Now,
walks in time to music to downstage left, head turned out to audience so that they can still hear singing
Different is nice, but it sure isn't pretty,
Pretty is what its about.
I never met anyone who was "different"
Who couldn't figure that out.
stops walking
So, beautiful, I'd never live to see
But it was clear,
If not to her,
Well then to me!
runs center
That everyone is beautiful at the ballet
ronde de jambe en dehors au terre right, ronde de jambe left, balance right, balance left
Every prince has got to have his swan
bourres with right in front, switch to left in front, ronde de jambe en dedans au terre right, "dying swan" arms, plie over front leg
Yes, everyone is beautiful at the ballet, Hey!
soutenou turn to the right, retire right leg, pique arabesque, pique front
I was pretty at the ballet!
balance left, balance right (during music following singing, runs back to chair and stands on it
*near hysterics*
Up a steep and very narrow stairway
To the voice like a metronome
Up a steep and very narrow stairway
It wasn't paradise
It wasn't paradise
It wasn't paradise, but it was home
sits
*spoken*
I don't know what they were for or against, really,
except each other.
I mean I was born to save their marriage
but when my father came to pick my mother up
at the hospital
he said, "Well, I thought this was going to help.
but I guess it's not..."
Anyway, I did have a fantastic fantasy life.
I used to dance around the living room
with my arms up like this
arms into a dopey fifth position en haut
My fantasy was that he was an Indian Chief...
And he'd say to me,
"Maggie, do you wanna dance?"
And I'd say, "Daddy, I would love to dance!"
*remembering, lost in the memory, singing again*
But it was clear...
When he proposed...
That I was born to help their marriage!
And when ...
That's what he said...
That's what she said ...
I used to dance around the living room!
He wasn't warm ...
Not to her...
He was an indian chief and he'd say
"Maggie, do you wanna dance?"
And I'd say, "daddy, I would love to!"
Everything was beautiful at the ballet,
Raise your arms and someone's always there.
Yes, everything was beautiful at the ballet,
*perks up*
At the ballet,
stands
At the ballet!!!
*dances towards stage left*
2 pique turns, tour jete, pique arabesque, tombe, pas des bourre, glissade, tour jete
Yes, everything was beautiful, at the ballet, Hey!
I was pretty,
I was happy,
I would love to!
At the ballet.
slow reverance, then slow chaine turns into wings
The end!!!

Sorry it took me such a long time to get this done! I'm such a last minute person!
Costumes: www.dansco.com . . .
(Costume subject to change.)
xdancingqueenx: purple, ash89dancer: green, nikiyaballerina: purple, everdancing: green, dancechik2012: purple. (Sorry if you dont like your color, im trying to make a pattern.)
Music: danshep.net . . ..
Dancers and dancer codes: everdancing (E), ash89dancer (A), dancechik2012 (D), nikiyaballerina (N), and xdancingqueenx (X)
Backdrop: r-m-t.org . . .
Ceography: 8 counts: E and A walk slyly from opposite sides of the stage (E on stage left, me on stage right.) and walk toward eachother leaving a little space inbetween us, then we each do any pose we want, but make sure we are facing towards eachother and one leg should be in front of the other. (make it sexy guys!)
5 counts: D and X come out (D on stage left X on right) and does the same but with everdancing and me in between them. (they also do a pose.)
4 counts: We all put the hand closest to the audience on to our knee and bring it up then down then up again.
4 counts: N comes out from the back of the stage and does the same thing facing stage left. (The same way me and E are.)
4 counts: N A and E face front and tendue left then right then left and then go back into poses, D and X do the same but with opposite legs.
5 counts: We all do a fan kick and chasse( N A & E to the left, D &X to the right) then go into an pencche with arms out in front of you. balence!
7 counts: We do a domino effect, X going first, We all swing our working leg foward and slide into the splits. (We can each take 3 counts.)
14 counts: Still going in a domino effect, we spin on our rears and then land lying on the floor face up. We wait for the rest to stop, ending the domino effect. We arch up from our backs and with legs strait we lean foward. D X & N go into a back bend and get up from there.
14 counts: With thier hands on thier hips they (facing back to the audience) move thier hips left and right. And then turn to there partner (X & A, D & E) and helps them up by pulling them to thier feet. Since N doesnt have a partner she will will do 1½ pirouette turns so she is now facing the audience.
12 counts: While still holding hands with thier partner they are going to take the hand closest to the audience and put it under thier other arm while dojng a half turn so they are now facing opposite ways. (i hope i didnt confuse you!) N will do a grande battama to the side. then we all jump to front. tendue, fouth position, piruoette (all to the right), then drag turn. (left) and then land with your wieght on your right leg.
(New part)
8 counts: In domino effect, this time starting with E, we double piruoette to the right.
8 counts: Together we do a layout side kick, then a sutinu, (Sp?) Attitude front and back, then a develope to the side.
8 counts: X & E Begin walking slyly to the back of the stage, then the do a slide to face the audience. So basicly now there is 2 people in the back and 3 in the front.
12 counts: The back people do podubourre, passe, down. At the same time the front people do passe, down, podubourre. Then the front people slide into he middle splits. At the same time the back people to a middle split jump. The front people bring thier legs together and again at the same time the back people to a jump with thier legs together slightly foward. Then the front people roll up.
12 counts: We all shene (Sp?) to the right 4 times, then we pivit 2 time, repet. So now the former back people (X & E) are now in the front, and vise versa. The front people slide into the side splits, while the back people do a kitri jump while turning slightly to the side. The front people come in and do a wall strech and then from there go into a develope to the front.
8 counts: The back people take 4 steps foward while the back poeple take 4 steps back, so now we're in a strait line. We put our arms on eachother. (Can-can postion.)
8 counts: We do 2 kicks, 1 fan kick, then let go of eachother. (Now you are facing right front.) Move your hips back and forth while taking 2 steps foward.
8 counts: Once again in a domino effect, we all cartweel and slide into side splits with arms in V postion.
Take a bow!
It's not the best cheography, but it'll do. | ReplySendWatch
