Hi Rebecca, great post!

Right everyone, here is my advise -

Well you need to be dedicated to getting your back catch, and you need to stretch practically every day.

I will give you a few tips.

Tie a rope from a dressing gown or a scarf round your ankle so that you have and end in each hand. Pull it up above your head as straight as you can. Keep trying this and try to get it straighter every single time, and this one helps lots.

Another one is to sit in the splits and lean back as far as you can. What leg you put forwards depends on what back leg you kick with. Get someone to help you lean back, and if you do this every day, gradually you will be able to grab your leg.

Another is to stand against a wall, and to get someone to push your leg up to your head. Get them to push it up straight as far as you can go, and then bend it to see how close you are to your head. See if you can put your hands back and hold it, then you will see if you have enough flexibility to catch it by kicking.

Make sure you do lots of crabs, backbends and lots of back things because they will help your back flexibility, which is vital for your back catch.

To stretch your back, lie on the ground on your tummy. Stretch your arms out in front of you and sort of clasp your hands but make sure your arms are straight. Get someone to come from behind and pull your arms up. Make sure your arms stay straight, and that your tummy stays on the ground, and make sure it is only your back that is being bent back. Get them to pull you back as far as you can go and then hold for a minute.

NEVER do all this without warming up, because you can seriously injure yourself. And it is also good to get someone to help you, i have my sister who is a great help ;)

I hope i have helped a little bit!

Good Luck everyone on acheiving your back catch! :D

Hiya,

I cant even do a back catch myself but my advice is to make sure you have your basic flexibility first like splits etc!

Practise leaning back with your arms in position,

it will prepare you more.

Really go for it, you'll never know till you try!

When trying to achieve positions that are combinations it is essential to get basics right before you move on. The back catch requires vey good splits as well as good back flexibility.
Get both of these right first, then the position will be easy. Ian (Contortion Trainer)

You should always stretch before you do any exercise so you dont hurt yourself. If u want to get ur back catch better then you need to warmup every day. For the first couple of days try and grab ur leg and pull it up straight. Then when you feel comfortable lie on the floor and grab your leg and pull it over your head. Even get ur family to help u. To get ur back bendy go into a back bend and straighten ur legs to ur shoulders are in line with ur head. Dont over power so it hurts u might do some great damage. Do that evry other day. That should help.

DON'T GIVE UP.

Thanks very much groovytwins for that brilliant post :)
I took all that advise you gave me on msn and now my backcatch is not far from being straight and i;ve only been doing it for two weeks :)
At first i couldn't even catch it but now i can and i can stretch it too :)
The more you warm up before you try catching your leg, the easier it will eventually get.
If you just try catching it straight away you wont catch it and can also cause a lot of pain in your back.
Another stretch to add to the list is lie on your tummy with your arms out in front of you and get someone to pull your leg as far as it will go. You MUST keep it straight or else you wont feel the stretch. Eventually you will get it in a perfectly straight 90 degree angle :)
Another is hold on the the window sill, keep your back totally straight with your chest out and kick back the leg you wanna catch with. You should feel it in your lower back, keep doing this over and over until you feel you need to stop :D
This should help loads!
Hope all my advise helps you :)
