I think you have given some great advise.I already tried tieing a scarf around my leg but it didn't work for me.I think the best thing to do is stretch. If you do the correct stretches every day for a few weeks i bet you could get your back catch.Thats what my teacher tells us.

Invariably it is lack of basic flexibility that prevents someone from getting to a good back catch which is quite an advanced position.

To get a successful back catch you need exercises to progress as follows:

1. Do standard splits getting hips properly square, and hold the splits in total comfort and without difficulty.

2. Do slight over splits of 6 ins or 15cm until you can and hold the oversplit easily.

3. In the oversplits do backbends with head brushing your rear thigh.

4. On the floor in a chest stand, do overhead splits, the same position as a back catch but not standing.

5. Then you are ready to stand and do the back catch.

But if your shoulders are not flexible enough to be able to grasp the raised leg at the knee then shoulder exercises will need to be done.

Hi..x

Very Useful Information on this post :D..x

I could never be able to catch my leg.
I use to try and twist my left arm to catch
my left leg and then pull . This was easier but strains
your back very much as its getting pulled more to the
one side.

So the advice i can give is .x

1.Do your stretches/warm up every day.

2. Sit in the splits until when you sit in them
its in a comfert zone and not hurting.

3. then sit in splits and try yourself leaning back
and touching your leg.

4. then if you dont have balance get someone to
help you lean back by holding your arms and bringing
your arms closer to your leg.

5.Do Bridges/crabs Backbends so your back is stretched
also this helps to get your back flexible more
so that its not as hard to catch your leg and its not
straining your back .

6.Lie on your stomach and get someone to hold your arms
and at the same time put their foot on your back but not
putting tooo much pressure on the back. Just so the back stays
on the floor while the other person brings your arms back.

5.Stand in a doorway and bring your leg up the back so its on
the oppisite side . so your practicly doing the splits on it and the other side place your hands and push away so your heads
back and your back is bending towards your leg.

5. You could try - Getting someone to stand and you can place
your arms round there waist . place your head on their
stomach and keep your other leg straight while kicking
the other one up and that someone catches it and pulls it.

You Must stretch before you do any kind of movements or anything
To try and get your back catch better x

Hope this helps Some of you :D..x
Love Ashley x

enough to catch it

Hi.
Well to do my backcatch first I practiced pulling it to my head and then once I could do that I tried catching it. I could almost do it but I couldn't reach far enough so my friend gave me some advice. She said push the arm (that your going to catch the leg with) back with the other hand. It worked for me lol!! Now I have quite a good back catch but it did take me about 6 months to get it.
Good Luck to anyone trying to get their's I hope you get it soon.
Love Bella..xoxoxoxoxo

What is the move called where you catch your foot, hold your leg straight and then jump around? I have seen it on utube, my friend can do it. I can do it but I wont need to use it because i am only a beginner but I am very interested in trying things out.. charlotte x

Has Hamfist ever given anyone exercises to make your shoulders flexy? I've done a site search and can't seem to find them but he seems to refer to them quite a lot in his posts. I would really appreciate any help. At the minute i make my daughter sit on the floor in front of me and put her arms in a straight line above her head. I then pull them (slowly)down towards her back until she starts screaming!
There must be a better way!
