Thank you for posting that. Hopefully dancers will look at that and take it to heart! Being a former ballerina, I can definately appreciate your little demonstration. I was having a hard time with my toe stands recently until I thoroughly analyzed them....:) Having a high arch makes it harder for me, but I am working on them so when I get in Prelims (hopefully soon) I will be an expert!

this was a great post! i had pointe training before doing toe stands in irish and it helped me out so much! it is nice to see other irish dancers out there that know this info too and are passing it along to other irish dancers. I see so many girls go up (or down) the wrong way with toe stands and it makes me cringe!

Those are awesome pictures! I did pointe for several years as well, and found it made doing toe stands in Irish much easier. I do have a tendency to want to go further over the toe though because the pointe shoes I used had a slightly different placement for the box so that the ankle in pointe has to do more work than in Irish.

Totally and completely. They've caused more foot problems than any other dance shoe I've ever had. And as soon as they get comfortable, it means they are too broken in and need to be replaced. (Pain.)

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been en pointe as long as I've been an irish dancer, and I've always wanted to see both side-by-side.

Thats Really neat! Its really cool how you do Ballet and Irish dance, because I know they are completley different types of dancing.

I can't help but notice that the toe shoe seems to "like" this more than the hard shoe does...

Thanks for the info. Our dancer just started toe walking and it makes me cringe every time I watch. It's so beautiful though and if she's going to do it she might as well do it right! Thanks, again.

I have only just started with toestands and I'm having problems even getting up on my toes. There are not in my steps yet fortunately so I have time.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I have been using a theraband.

Really creative post! I used to take ballet and I think that's what has helped me with Irish Dancing. Although I never did toe stands in ballet I was far too young!

WOW!!!! Thanks so much for this post. I often see some of the girls too arched and "tacoed". Worried that my daughter may be doing the same thing with her toe stands. Will show her this thread. Thanks so very much!!!

Great explanation, if I understand it correctly I'm afraid I have so-called Taco toas. Not good. I'm not sure though whether I get it correctly. I know it's not nice to show a picture of a random person on a public forum but maybe you could PM me a pic of feet without stating who's feet they are?

It's just that I feel less confident stretching my foot instead of leaning slightly backwards into the shoe. This is due to a. once having broken my foot (playing football, not dancing)b. feeling more balanced because I only have a tiny 'flat-bit' at the tip of the shoe and c. being a bit heavier then your average Irish dancer.

According to my TC I have a good arch while dancing, I'm just not sure whether it's capable of supporting my weight.
