Like the other photo and arts-forums, we've disallowed karma for photos on this board too. We're working on a better reward-system for posts like this. In the meantime, please refrain from giving karma to photos etc. If you want more information, there should be a thread about it in tell dance.net. 17 Replies to Karma not allowed for photos |

I guess I am just dense, but I looked and looked and I couldn't find anyplace that said you couldn't give Karma for photos. I am certain that I have done this in the past. Not just for a picture, but sometimes for the comments that went along with the photo. It makes sense, I guess, since it is a picture and not a comment. If you want to post a comment that is sort of not related to the picture, do it in separate posts. |

I'm with Irishmama--I don't see a thread anywhere about this. Sometimes I karmatize photos because they're humorous, or beautiful, or informative (like ShyViolet's "Photo Exploration of Toe Stands"). Can we get some hard and fast guidelines on karmatization? It could potentially become confusing without clearly defined rules.

I agree. Isn't it our karma? Shouldn't we be allowed to use it where we see fit? |

Karma should be given to thoughtprovoking, helpful or humerous comments (you'll find this in the guidelines). If a comment of that nature goes along with the picture, offcourse you can give it karma. The main issue is that the comment should get the karma, not the photo. We are talking about creating a different rewardsystem for pictures and other artistic posts.
We spend alot of time figthing karma-abuse. If taking a photo off the net and placing it here was karma-worthy, the karma itself wouldn't have any value. This goes for all forums, not just the irish board. |

The above is why the karma for dance.net . . . is allowed to stand, as I understand it. We weren't giving karma for the picture, but for the fact that it was a very helpful post that happened to have pictures attached. |

Thank you alleycat and aurthefaery. I feel better knowing I did not break a rule giving karma to that post. I didn't think I did, but confirmation is nice, as there was some question on the thread. |

Okay - it's not fair to give karma to someone who has found a photo off Google or whatever and posted it here.
But if it's a picture they've taken themselves, or a collage/cartoon/drawing...is it still not allowed? What about all the people who get karma for copying and pasting an email they received into a message? Surely that doesn't deserve karma either?
Any progress on the new rewards system?

Karma for photos is STILL not allowed. It doesn't matter if the picture is bought and published by LIFE magazine. We do not allow karma for pictures because of the wide spread abuse. |

"abuse", lol. Like it really means anything. When I joined DDN I supposed it's purpose to be for information and fun. I didn't expect there to be 105 pointless butts.

just noticing something, and there's probably not much to do about it, but there has been an awful lot of karma-giving for pictures lately. not targeting anyone in particular, but an observation. it's not really being upheld. |

^ Someone out there has clearly decided that the post itself deserved karma. What the criteria are, I don't know. Funny though, that I can get banned for posting a picture which was taken specifically FOR ME...when I didn't ask for it and therefore wished to thank the photographer...

^ Weezy, I think I see their point.
For example, someone could, in a weak moment, give Karma for this picture of my daughter in her new solo dress.
Or I could make it even more confusing by adding a short, conceptual statement at the end of the post that would make it questionable whether the Karma was for the picture or the written word.
On seeing their appreciation, and being unsure of the Karmatizer’s motivation I would then respond by posting even more of these pictures (248 of them at last count) in a frenzied cycle of karma harvesting that would bring about the apocalypse and drive everyone back to the Voy.forums....
And nobody wants that!
