I've played field hockey for 2 years and i was considering doing a spring league for that or doing a field event for track and field (mainly because the track never caught my eye)..pole vaulting seems really cool and if i decided to do the track and field over field hockey then that is the event i would most like to do..

Opinions? How hard is it to learn for a first-timer?
Thanks!

pole-vaulting takes a lot to do. I had some gal friends, who had ran cross country, and started pole-vaulting in track. they didn't place.

pole-vaulting is a lot of the sprint abilities and body control. I was gonna try it, but I didn't want to waste coaches' time teaching me when they already had experience guys doing it. the pole comes in different strenghts and flexibilities, so u'll never worry about the pole not taking you up. it's a lot of form to learn just like all the other track events.

i went from distance to sprinter for track. we had to do form stuff which was different than running a mile.

so in short, how hard is it for a first timer? depends. just be ready to work and do things over and over again. i wouldn't expect to place or score as well as the other people who've been doing it for while.

au revoir
